The Rocketeer is one of my favorite classic Disney movies from the early 90s. If you haven’t already seen it yet, please do yourself a solid favor and fire up Disney+ and give it a watch.
Next year is the 30th anniversary of the Disney film, and Diamond Select Toys is getting the party started this year with several new Rocketeer collectibles and toys which include releases in their PVC Diorama, Premier Resin Statue, 1/2 Scale Bust, Select Action Figure, and Vinimates product lines. That is a lot of Rocketeer. Our great friends at Diamond Select Toys sent us some Rocketeer products to showcase on the blog.
Today, we will be taking a look at the SDCC Limited Edition Rocketeer Vinimates figure which pays homage to the Rocketeer comics. You can check out our review of the movie version Rocketeer Vinimates figure here.
Packaging
There are two stickers on the packaging. The first sticker is the SDCC 2020 exclusive sticker on the front of the packaging.
The second sticker seals the top flap of the package and notes that this figure is a limited edition of only 300.
The Rocketeer Figure
This special limited edition variant of the Rocketeer Vinimates figure pays tribute to the original design of the character from the Rocketeer comics by Dave Stevens. The Rocketeer made his comic debut in 1982.
The Rocketeer’s helmet had a more yellow gold shade in the comic.
Some of the other color variant differences between this figure and the movie version Rocketeer Vinimates are that the boots and gloves are black instead of brown and the jet pack is grey with yellow flames as opposed to the silver metallic jet pack with translucent flames from the movie version Vinimates figure.
The comic lines accenting his pants, jacket, and helmet is another fun addition. He looks as if he could have flown right off the cover of one of Dave Stevens’ classic Rocketeer comics.
Here are some side by side comparison shots of the two different Rocketeer Vinimates figures.
Where to Buy?
The Diamond Select Toys’ Rocketeer Vinimates SDCC 2020 (LE 300) comic variant figure retails for $10, and it can be purchased directly from Diamond Select Toys’ Online Shop:
Final Thoughts
This Rocketeer figure is very unique compared to the standard movie version Rocketeer Vinimates figure. There are definitely enough differences with both figures to justify wanting/needing both in your collection. I am honestly surprised that the SDCC 2020 version is still available at only $10 since it has a low edition of only 300 figures. Also, if you haven’t read the Rocketeer comics, you should definitely check those out too!
