Super7 Disney Ultimates Mad Hatter Review

Super7’s Disney Ultimates Wave 2 has been released right in time for the 2022 holiday season. Wave 2 was originally revealed way back in May of 2021. The four main characters in this wave are Alice (Alice in Wonderland), Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland), Robin Hood (Robin Hood), and Hyacinth Hippo (Fantasia).

Our super friends at Super7 sent over their Disney Ultimates Wave 2 for us to showcase on the blog.

For today’s blog, we will take a look at the eccentric Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. The Mad Hatter is always fun at parties. Today just happens to be my Unbirthday.

Packaging

The Super7 Ultimates figures boxes come packaged in a brown box to protect the main box presentation. This is a really great service from Super7, especially for in box collectors. Super7 has a fine attention to detail in their figure’s boxes that it would be a shame for the box to get damaged during shipping.

The main presentation of the Super7 Disney Ultimates Max Hatter box has a iridescent themed embossed foil slipcover with the name of the film, Alice in Wonderland, in the center. The slipcover features bright green color like the Mad Hatter as well as a checkerboard floor that is seen in the movie when Alice falls down the rabbit hole into Wonderland.

When you slide the slipcover off, the figure and a few of the accessories are visible from the window packaging. I am not an in box collector, but I wouldn’t blame anyone for wanting to keep the figure in this detailed box.

The sides of the box features the table setting from the Mad Tea Party.

The back of the box has a description about the Mad Hatter.

Justly named for his considerable top hat and his loud and kooky personality. He, along with his two equally eccentric friends, are in the middle and c yet another celebratory “unbirthday” tea party when their cheerful singing is interrupted by the helpless Alice, trying to find her way home.

Mad Hatter

This figure is a perfect representation of the Mad Hatter from the 1951 Disney animated classic, Alice in Wonderland. His head sculpt is so well done that you can hear the legendary voice of Ed Wynn as the Mad Hatter in your head. The 10/6 on the Max Hatter’s hat is a price tag which stands for “10 shillings and a sixpence.” The Mad Hatter’s coat is made of a quality soft goods fabric.

Accessories

This is a Super7 Ultimates figure. The expectation is that this is the ultimate figure of this character and that it is loaded with all essential accessories.

There are three different Mad Hatter head sculpts which were all easy to swap. Two of his heads are his silly and absolutely mad faces. The third head sculpt is after the March Hare smashes the Mad Hatter’s hat with a mallet which pushes the hat down over his head. The Mad Hatter then talks out a flap on the top of his hat.

The Mad Hatter includes six different hand options. One of the hands has a tea cup saucer plate that can be dipped into a cup of tea like the Max Hatter does in the film.

I do appreciate the value add of additional characters being included in most of the Disney Ultimates figure packs. The Super7 Disney Ultimates Max Hatter figure comes with the Doormouse in a tea pot from the tea party scene in Alice in Wonderland. The Doormouse also is featured in a scene with the Queen of Hearts during Alice’s trial scene. Even though this is such a small character, it is really great to see the character be a part of the Super7 Disney Ultimates lineup.

The Mad Hatter uses a large teacup to pour three cups of tea at the same time at the Mad Tea Party. The figure will need to have a boost by standing on something to be able to reach the tea pot handle.

The Mad Hatter attempts to fix the White Rabbit’s watch which is running exactly 2 days slow. he diagnoses the problem with the watch is that it is full of too many wheels. The Mad Hatter then uses butter, tea and jam to try and fix the watch. Poor White Rabbit…I wonder if he will ever make it into Super7 Disney Ultimates?

It’s a Very Merry Unbirthday cake for me!

After a rewatch of Alice in Wonderland, the only accessories that I could think of adding to this release is additional teacups in multiple varieties. If we get a March Hare Disney Ultimates figure in a future wave, we would most likely get more teacups. A large tea cup Max Tea Party ride vehicle from the Disney Parks would have also been mind blowing.

Final Thoughts

Why is a raven like a writing desk?” – Mad Hatter

The Mad Hatter as a Disney Ultimates figure seemed like an odd choice to me when he was first announced. The figure feels like it could really use a March Hare, but three Alice in Wonderland characters in the second wave might have been too much. Super7 absolutely nailed the Mad Hatter character with this figure release. The three head sculpts and his soft goods coat are perfect. The figure looks like it just jumped right off the screen to shout riddles at me and invite me to tea. He looks even better when paired up with Alice.

This is not a figure that you will be able to get into many dynamic poses, but the goofy expressions from the head sculpts will make the Mad Hatter a fun addition to react to something in your display.

The accessories that Super7 included with this figure are straight from the Alice in Wonderland Mad Tea Party scene. More tea cup accessories would have been a great addition to this release, but you have a couple of tea display options with what he comes with.

The Mad Hatter would make an absolutely mad addition as an Unbirthday present to a friend or yourself.

Another super thanks shout out to our friends at Super7 for allowing us to showcase the Disney Ultimates product line on our blog.
