If you are a card game fan, you MUST check out Funko’s Something Wild! series of games. We bought all six of their Disney inspired packs last year and we play them regularly. The game is easy enough that my six year old picked it up and challenging enough that my wife and I have some pretty competitive matches. When I saw that Funko had expanded the line to include Star Wars and Marvel I had to get my hands on them quick.

How To Play!
Funko Something Wild! works like this; The goal of the game is to earn points by building sets and runs of cards. Each point adds a power ability to the player who earned it, and the first to three points wins. Another cool aspect to this series of card games is that the game is designed for players to use multiple sets. The game can get Wild! We haven’t tried mixing Disney and The Mandalorian… I’m not sure if there would be any problems, but the box recommends combining with another Star Wars set. Review for more Star Wars Something Wild! sets are most likely in my future.
To begin you shuffle the power cards (in this set they are the cards with Grogu, aka “Baby Yoda” on the back), and place them face down in the middle of the playing area. Turn the top card up. This power is available to any player who has the Grogu Mover. Place the mover next to the power cards, shuffle the Character cards. Each player is dealt three cards for their hand. You may look at your hand, but it is a secret to the other players. The rest of the deck goes face down next to the Powers cards. There will need to be space for a discard pile.
Each turn you will draw a card from the Character card pile, Play a card from your hand, and if your card matches the color of the Power card you take the Mover. This set introduces a new Power feature in that card 9 has a Mover symbol and you can take the Mover when played regardless of the cards color. You may then use the power available (or any that you have from scoring points). You Score when you get a set of three cards of any color with the same number or a run of three cards of the same color with numbers in order (example; 7, 8, 9). The final step is to discard when you have more than five cards face up in front of you.
This set was also the first set we played that includes the new Power card design. In the Disney series the Power cards had words that explained the Power, but the newer sets utilize a symbol indicating what power the card unlocks (example; Treat 9s in play as any NUMBER). You will want to keep up with your instructions for this game because there is a Symbol Key in them.
The Review!
Now that I’ve explained how to play, let’s talk about this version of the game. As I said in the beginning I love playing Funko! Something Wild! We get a lot of enjoyment out of playing the game, and Funko’s designs are part of the fun. I know there are a lot of Funko fans who keep their Pops! in their packaging and I totally understand why. The packaging for Something Wild meets the quality expectations from their other products. The packaging looks great. We keep all of our sets (we are up to nine now) separated in their individual packaging.

The Grogu Mover is a mini-Pop! figure. It’s cute as can be, and my kids play this set aggressively to have this Mover on their side of the table. It is the standard Grogu pose that you may be familiar with… but it’s tiny. Awwwww.

The artwork on the cards is based on Funko Pop!s (is that the correct plural?). You get most of your favorite Mandalorian characters like Din Djarin, Greef Karga, IG-11, Ahsoka Tano and more.

I’m glad they included Moff Gideon and the Armorer in this set, but I feel that it is missing Stormtroopers. I would have liked to have seen dirty, hungry Stormtroopers in the set. The additions of Bo-Katan and Ahsoka obviously indicates they were going for a season 2 theme as opposed to the first season. But hey, with only nine cards you have to get the most popular characters into this set.
Now let’s review the gameplay. I really enjoy this game. It isn’t difficult to learn, but it’s also hard to master. The different powers can really throw off your game. You can have a plan, victory us within sight, and someone scores and takes the power you had planned on playing away leaving you with nothing. I like the use of the Mover to limit who can use the Power cards. It does take some strategy to win. It may take a few turns before you can score. You have to think ahead. At the same time my kids love playing against each other and friends. This game is the Uno of our house (we played a lot of Uno when I was a kid).

Final Thoughts: I opened this review by saying how much I love this card game, and The Mandalorian set only intensified that. I love this game and chances are we play it tonight with The Mandalorian in the background. We have to get ready for The Book of Boba Fett!
