I believe very few books have surprised me as much as this little book. I bought it thinking I would enjoy sharing a few DuckTales jokes to my daughters, but I never imagined the book would be full of spoilers for episodes of DT17 that have not aired yet. (Read more about the spoilers here).

The girls were excited to see the book in our Amazon delivery this past week. We also received the DuckTales: Doodles book, so they both began drawing and coloring first. But after baths they were excited to climb into bed and read it. Our oldest read the joke book to her younger sister and they were giggling until we made them turn off the lights.

Yesterday she asked if she could take the book to school and she shared it with one of her friends. They both enjoyed the book, and she has read many of the jokes multiple times over. I’ve had to ask her twice if I could see the book so I could read it for this review.

I believe this book is perfect for the age it was created for, and even younger. My daughter is in 1st grade and she had no trouble reading the book. In fact, I would recommend grabbing a copy of this book for your younger child and reading it to them.

With the age intended in mind, the book is a lot of fun. The book is designed to be Launchpad’s notepad (seen in the premiere episode of DuckTales 2017), and in the beginning he writes that he is trying to come up with jokes to make Scrooge McDuck laugh. The whole gang is involved and everyone’s notes are written in different colors and are clearly different styles of writing. One of my favorite parts of the book is that Launchpad keeps referring to Scrooge as “Mr. McDee.”

The art is straight from the show. I do not see an art credit for anyone so I believe the images are reproduced form the show. Like the show, the art is fantastic. The images selected add to the humor of the book. Some of the images are from episodes of the show that have not yet aired (hence the spoiler warnings we have been sharing). It’s cool to see some of the new characters and to get a glimpse of the new storylines that will be in DT17’s first season.

My daughter and I plan to record a review for the next episode of DuckTalks. She is very excited to tell you more about this book, and I hope you will give it a listen.
