If you’ve listened to our podcast, you know that we have a deep appreciation for Darkwing Duck. I would say Darkwing Duck is my favorite property from the Disney Afternoon. Nine year-old Mitchell looked forward to every episode of Disney’s Terror that Flaps in the Night!
I loved everything about this show. DW’s ego, Launchpad’s loyalty, Gosalyn’s spunk, Honker’s nerdiness, and the rogues gallery… oh my… those perfect villains.
When we first saw a promo image for the Duckatales reboot that included Launchpad my first reaction was; “Man, I hope they get this right.” My second reaction was, “I hope this leads to a new DW reboot!”
When San Diego Comic Con came around and the news broke that Matt Youngberg and Frank Angones shared images of Darkwing and many of his rogues in the new DuckTales designs, I lost my mind.
We have since learned more about DW’s eventual debut on the show, but one question has remained at the forefront of every DW fan’s mind… will Jim Cummings voice Darkwing?
Jim Cummings is the veteran voice actor who has been the only voice of Darkwing Duck. He has close to 400 voice over credits to his name. Aside from DW you are probably familiar with his work as Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, the Tasmanian Devil (Taz), Hondo Ohnaka From Star Wars The Clone Wars and Rebels, and Big Bad from Goldie and Bear.

All the way back in August, Jim shared a tweet that had all the DW boys and girls going gaga.
Then in September Disney XD released a video on YouTube that included Jim holding a #Darkwing sign with a caption designating him as a cast member of the show. DuckTales Theme Song Supercut
More recently, Jim Cummings has been listed as playing Darkwing Duck in DuckTales 2017 on IMdB.com.
I’ve never believed they would recast the voice of DW, but I’m glad to see more indication that Jim is in the cast.
How about you? How excited are you that Jim Cummings will once again pick up the mantl of Darkwing? Join the conversation in the comments or on Twitter @DuckTalks.
I’m pretty sure the person who was most excited about Jim Cummings returning as “The Terror that Flaps in the Night”, is Jim Cummings himself!
I’m excited to hear what you guys think of the “leaked” concept art. It’s not the greatest quality image, but from what I can tell, it looks pretty cool, and I love the new Ratcatcher.
Is it just me, or does he look noticeably younger here? It could just be the show’s art style, but he looks slimmer and more spry, and less of a middle aged man on the verge of a midlife crisis. It’s a bit hard to say more than that, because the picture is so small, and I can’t wait to we actually see it in action.
And for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet:

Oh yeah! Jim is very excited to continue the role. He is a fan of the character. I thought I had included that image of DW in this article…
That image created all kinds of fanboy screams for me that Saturday night. I have many thoughts on the image, and we plan on talking about it on the podcast soon. Overall, I like the use of the new DuckTales look, but I’m not sold on the belt. The Ratcatcher looks awesome! It is always my choice mode of transportation when I play Disney Infinity.
Thanks for listening, and for joining the conversation! We hope to record the next episode very soon. 😉

I’m sad that he’s likely never going to voice Darkwing again after this episode.

I guess it depends whether the Disney+ series is a spin-off of DuckTales 2017 or a reboot.
