Scheme the Impossible Dream is a Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers story published in Disney Club #3 (September 1993) in France. Spanning 44 pages, it feels like a lost episode of the animated series that fans never had the chance to see. After the Rescue Rangers foil Fat Cat’s latest scheme to steal the sarcophagus of Neferkittiti, the villain turns to a more sinister weapon: hypnosis. Using mind control, Fat Cat manipulates the Rescue Rangers into a life of crime, driving a wedge between the team and sparking internal conflicts that threaten to tear them apart. Will this be the end of the Rescue Rangers?
Gummi in a Gilded Cage is an Adventures of the Gummi Bears story from British Wuzzles Special #1 (1986) that puts Sunni Gummi at the center of the action. After being captured by the Carpies, Sunni is confined to an ornate golden cage and forced to sing lullabies to her captors. Determined to bring her home, Zummi, Gruffi, and Cubbi set out on a daring rescue mission. Using one of Zummi’s flying contraptions, the trio infiltrates the Carpies’ stronghold, frees Sunni from her gilded prison, and makes a thrilling escape.
Sara’s Invention is a dangerously fun Darkwing Duck comic from Disney Adventures Vol. 2, No. 7 (May 1992) that perfectly captures Darkwing’s oversized ego and knack for turning a simple situation into a major crisis. Fresh from helping S.H.U.S.H. capture the notorious Mentone Magler, Darkwing Duck expects recognition for his latest triumph. Instead, he learns that the brilliant Dr. Sara Bellum has created a crime-fighting robot called RNOT-M2, designed to assist in keeping the streets of St. Canard safe. To Darkwing, however, replacing him with a machine is hardly a compliment. Convinced that no robot could ever match his unique talents, he immediately takes offense to the invention. Determined to prove the robot’s superiority, Dr. Bellum organizes a demonstration that pits RNOT-M2 against Darkwing. What begins as a contest of skills quickly spirals out of control thanks to Darkwing’s impulsiveness. During the challenge, he accidentally feeds the robot a photograph of Gosalyn, causing the machine to identify her as a target. Suddenly, what was meant to be a showcase of technology becomes a dangerous pursuit.
Who Will Rescue the Rescue Rangers? is a two‑part adventure from Disney Comics Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers issues #15 and #16 (August and September 1991). Across the park, valuable items begin disappearing, and multiple crime‑fighting teams—the Rescue Rangers, Wasp Patrol, Fearless Frogs, and Techno‑Rats—launch their own investigations. But the real threat isn’t just the missing items. Someone is orchestrating the thefts to frame each team for the others’ losses, pushing them toward conflict instead of working together. As tensions rise, the heroes must figure out who’s manipulating them before the park’s defenders turn on one another.
Flimflam Flyboy is a TaleSpin adventure from Disney Adventures Vol. 2, No. 4 (February 1992). It follows a young pilot determined to become the greatest flyer in the skies. He hires Baloo as his instructor, but secretly dreams of joining Don Karnage and living the air‑pirate life. When that fantasy collides with reality, the rookie finds himself in serious danger—and it’s up to Baloo and Kit to pull him out of the mess before his ambitions send him crashing for good.
Fool for Fuel is a DuckTales story from Danish Anders and Ekstra #1998-05 (April 1998). It was later translated to English in Uncle Scrooge #373 (January 2008). Launchpad drives Scrooge’s racecar filled with McDuck Hyperoctane in a Duckburg Speedway Race. The car flies in the race “literally” which gives Launchpad a chance to crash it.
The Dino Who Came To Dinner is a Goof Troop story published in Disney Club #10 (May 1994) in France. Spoonerville goes dinosaur crazy after Max and PJ find a young dinosaur that is believed to have emerged from a sink hole. Max and PJ want to return the dinosaur back to its family, but it turns out the dinosaur was a movie animatronic all along.
The Show Must Bow‑Wow, Arf, Woof Go On Yip! is a Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers story published in Yugoslavia in July 1989. Fat Cat springs a cage trap that captures the Rescue Rangers, ensuring they can’t interfere with his latest scheme—blowing up the dog show taking place next door. Monterey Jack’s unstoppable cheese obsession helps crack open the cage, but it’s Zipper who ultimately rises to the occasion, swooping in to foil Fat Cat’s plan and save the day.

Review
Ch‑ch‑ch‑Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers headline Fantagraphics’ Disney Afternoon Adventures series for the second time, and this volume delivers a wonderfully varied lineup of stories from across the Disney Afternooniverse — including Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin, and Goof Troop. I treasure the nostalgic tales I remember from the original Disney Comics line and Disney Afternoon Adventures magazine, but I’m equally entertained by the stories from the French publications and other international publications that I’m experiencing for the first time. Reading them feels like discovering brand‑new episodes of my favorite childhood shows.
I really can’t get enough of these classic Disney Afternoon stories, and I hope that Fantagraphics continues to publish them in many future volumes of this Disney Afternoon Adventures series until we have them all.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
