My Review
David Nakayama’s cover for this issue features Elisa Maza and a chained Goliath who was captured last issue. It is great to see Elisa Maza features on the cover, and let’s be honest she looks absolutely gorgeous here. The flashlight shine effect is really well done. This is my favorite cover of this comic series so far. I also opted for the black and white and metal premium editions.
The other Dynamite Comics Gargoyles variant cover that I am collecting are the action figure covers by Brent Schoonover and Alberto Silver. Bronx stars on the cover of Gargoyles #5. Bronx looks just like the recent Gargoyles Ultimate release from NECA. Demona (Issue #6) will be featured on the cover of future issues of this action figure variant cover series.

We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles.
The “Here in Manhattan” story that started out in Gargoyles #1 continues with Chapter Five: Render Unto Caesar.
The issue starts off from Hudson’s perspective as he has just witnessed Goliath get captured by N.Y.P.D.’s Gargoyle Task Force. As Hudson is about to try and free his friend, he is stopped by Matt Bluestone who is head of the task force. Matt talks Hudson from his attack as he fears that Hudson would easily get captured too. Hudson goes back to Eyrie Tower to retrieve some extra muscle reinforcements.
Meanwhile…Broadway and Angela are planning their commitment ceremony and Dino Dracon is behind some gang wars.
Brooklyn leads a rescue party that consists of Coldstone, Coldfire, and himself. His brothers, Broadway and Lexington, and Angela are left behind to protect the clan.
As the rescue attempt and breakout is almost upon completion, Goliath requests that Brooklyn leaves him at Rikers prison so that the Gargoyles are not seen as breaking the law when it suits them. Goliath is both brave and crazy to trust due process as his lawyer fights his court battle since Goliath is being held without charges.
This was another solid issue that can easily be imagined as an episode of the original Gargoyles animated show. There is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming months like the return of Demona in issue #7 and an exciting new Gargoyles comic series Gargoyles: Dark Ages which will be a prequel to the original animated series. Keep buying Gargoyles comics!
Weisman and Kambadais are crushing all Eyrie Tower high expectations for this Gargoyles comic series.
I can’t wait for the next issue of Gargoyles which will be tentatively released May 31st, 2023. Also, please make sure to support the Dynamite Comics Darkwing Duck, Disney Villains: Scar, and Disney Villains: Maleficent series while you are out buying Gargoyles.
