My Review
David Nakayama’s delivers another excellent main cover featuring Goliath, Eliza, Coldfire, Broadway, and David Xanatos feasting their eyes on Talon and Maggie’s newborn baby.
The other Dynamite Comics Gargoyles variant cover series that I am collecting is the action figure variant cover by Brent Schoonover and Alberto Silver. Broadway stars on the cover of Gargoyles #3. Brooklyn (Issue #4), Bronx (Issue #5), and Demona (Issue #6) will be featured on the cover of future issues of this action figure variant cover series.
*STOP READING HERE IF YOU WANT TO AVOID ALL SPOILERS*
We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles.
The “Here in Manhattan” story that started out in Gargoyles #1 continues with Chapter Three: Miracle Child.
Talon is ready to make David Xanatos pay for taking Maggie and his unborn child and don’t forget caretaker Mary was also abducted, but the readers know that Thailog is the evil gargoyle behind the abduction. Xanatos calmly claims his innocence as Talon has him by the throat. David Xanatos could be the chillest character in the Gargoyles universe, and I would definitely want to be friends with him. No one believes Xanatos’ innocence except for Goliath. David had a similar situation where his child was in danger in the Gargoyles animated series. So there is no way that he could cause any harm to someone else’s child.
The angry mob of Gargoyles are quick to divert their attention away from Xanatos to their next suspect, Thailog, at David’s suggestion. Xanatos suits up, and then they are on their way to confront Thailog.
We get a great battle action scene where everyone fights Thailog which is ended by the fact that Maggie and Talon’s baby has gotten all of their human genes to make a human baby boy and not a gargoyle. Thailog in his disappointment let’s the baby go.
As Maggie puts her new baby to bed, we see that the baby may have some alternate genes after all.
I am still reading all of the dialogue in the original voice actor’s voices. The feels of the animated series are very real, and it definitely feels like Gargoyles season 4 except instead of on Disney+ it is in the comic book. If there ever is a new Gargoyles revival animated series on Disney+, I would love to see it in George Kambadais’ art style. Weisman and Kambadais are crushing all Eyrie Tower high expectations for this Gargoyles comic series.
We get a cover gallery that shows all of the covers from Gargoyles #3. There are thirty different variation of covers for Gargoyles #3. I was able to use self control once again and just add the David Nakayama Cover A and Broadway Action Figure covers to my collection. I hope my fellow Gargoyles fans are loving their cover selections.
Disney fans are going to love that all of the ads at the back of this issue are specifically catered to them. There is an ad for Gargoyles #4, Darkwing Duck #2, Gargoyles #1 (1995 Facsimile), and the two recently announced Disney Villains comic miniseries Scar and Maleficent. I really can’t wait for Scar and Maleficent this Spring. Dynamite is really nailing all of the comic series from their Disney license.
I can’t wait for the next issue of Gargoyles which will be tentatively released March 22nd, 2023.
Gargoyles fans…WE LIVE AGAIN!
