It’s time to review some Muppets merch on the DuckTalks blog tonight.

Sam the Eagle and Rizzo the Rat were originally planned to be released in Diamond Select Toys’ Muppets Select figures Wave 4 back in 2017. The DST Muppets Select Wave 4 was indefinitely postponed leading Muppets fans to wonder if the figures would ever get released.

Diamond Select Toys started re-releasing the Muppets figures from the first few waves as a “Best of” series in 2021 due to a renewed interest from retailers and Muppets fans. The long awaited Sam the Eagle and Rizzo the Rat figure pack has finally landed.

Our muppetsational friends at Diamond Select Toys sent over their Muppets Sam the Eagle and Rizzo the Rat figures for us to check out and review on our blog.

Packaging

The front of the box has a window that displays all of the figures along with the accessory that is included with this figure pack.

The picture of the figures on the back of the box must have been an early planning shot as it includes three accessories (stage light, phonograph record player, and Sam For President poster) that are unfortunately not included with this figure pack release.

Sam the Eagle

The patriotic Sam Eagle has eight points of articulation including his head, wings (2), legs (2), feet (2), and tail. He stands really well on his own and his wings are on a ball joint that will allow for “I want you to vote” for Sam Eagle poses.

Rizzo the Rat

The pizza rat has six points of articulation including his head, arms (2), legs (2), and tail. The back of his jacket has The Ratty Duke Show logo.

Rizzo the Rat’s size scale is way off when compared to other figures in the DST Muppets Select series. I would have expected Gonzo to be taller than Rizzo, but it could be that Rizzo was made larger for more details for the image on the back of his jacket.

Accessories

This figure pack comes with Sam the Eagle’s presidential pedestal accessory.

The originally planned accessories shown on the back of the box would have been nice additions to go with the pedestal. The stage light accessory was included in the DST Fozzie and Gonzo figure pack.

Patriotic Photo Shoot

I decided to pair Sam the Eagle with the Marvel Select Captain America figure to celebrate all countries but mostly America.

Final Thoughts

I am excited that the Sam the Eagle and Rizzo the Rat figure pack finally went into production and was released into the series after first being revealed several years ago. They are both really great characters in the Muppets cast. Hopefully this release sells well so that Diamond Select Toys might add additional characters to the Muppets Select figure line in the future. I would love some figures from Muppets Haunted Mansion or the Muppet Vision 3D show.
