Diamond Select Toys Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie Boogie Figure Review

Well, well, well…what have we here?

It’s the Oogie Boogie man from Tim Burton’s classic, the Nightmare Before Christmas. Diamond Select Toys is currently ten series into their the Nightmare Before Christmas select figure line. For fans who may not have collected since the figure line debuted, DST has started to re-release some of the most popular characters in a “Best of” The Nightmare Before Christmas select series.

Our friends at Diamond Select Toys sent over their Oogie Boogie figure for this review.

Packaging

Oogie Boogie comes in a well themed Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas window packaging that could allow you to display the figure in the box, but please don’t do that as this figure is way too amazing and scary to leave trapped in it’s box. The back of the box has a picture of the figure as well as a description of the character.

Oogie Boogie

“I am the shadow on the moon at night filling your dreams to the brim with fright.” – Oogie Boogie

Oogie Boogie is a solid figure, and I don’t just mean from the great design and paint job. He is a heavy figure. He will definitely stand up on your shelf without any issues.

Oogie is approximately eight inches and has four points of articulation which include his head, both arms, and his upper torso. You are not going to get really dynamic custom poses from the figure; however, the sculpted pose is already very Oogie Boogie like he is about to break out into the Oogie Boogie song. From the waist down he is solid plastic. Did I mention that he is heavy?

The character Oogie Boogie is a bunch of bugs that are in a sown brown burlap sack. The paint job and textures of the figure are very accurate to his appearance in The Nightmare Before Christmas. The stitches on the side of Oogie Boogie are very nicely sculpted and painted to bring extra pop to the figure. The figure looks like it jumped right off the screen and ready to pop a stitch full of bugs.

This figure does not come with any accessories, but it does come with a removable faceplate to reveal the bugs that make up Oogie Boogie’s face. You can even see some of the bugs when you look inside his mouth.

The bugs are painted all different colors to make it even more detailed behind his face for this alternate look. I don’t see myself ever displaying him this way without his face, but it is a really cool detail that Diamond Select Toys included for this figure.

Oogie has two distinct looks in The Nightmare Before Christmas. The brown burlap sack is his normal look that is depicted with this figure release. His other look is his burlap sack in neon green from the black lights in his lair. Diamond Select Toys released a limited edition SDCC exclusive boxed set that featured his neon green appearance. I would love to see that figure get an individual release.

Display Pics

Oogie Boogie looks great displayed with any of the other Nightmare Before Christmas figures by Diamond Select Toys. I think I went too much for Jaba the Hutt and Leia with the below pic. That Sally figure is also great by the way.

I am a big fan of the Disney Villains. I am collecting the villains from Super 7’s Disney Ulimates product line. Oogie Boogie scales nicely next to Super 7’s Prince John.

You could add some additional Disney Villains to your display from Diamond Select Toys’ Kingdom Hearts figure line.

Oogie Boogie is the signature character for Disney California Adventure’s mega popular Halloween party…Oogie Boogie Bash. This figure would make a great souvenir to display next to your ticket or picture from that event.

Where to Buy?

Final Thoughts

This figure from Diamond Select Toys is a solid release that will look great in your Nightmare Before Christmas, Halloween, Chrtismas, Haunted Mansion Holiday, or Disney Villains displays. There is not a lot of articulation with this figure, but the sculpt is very dynamic so you are already setup for success with this figure looking like he is about to break out into the Oogie Boogie song or ruin Christmas. Why not both?

Oogie Boogie is my favorite character from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and this figure definitely met my high expectations as a fan.
