In the DuckTales episode The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee, Fenton shows off one of Gyro’s experiments…Universal Solvent.
A diamond coated jar is used to hold the Universal Solvent because the one thing that the liquid won’t dissolve is crystalized carbon.
Universal Solvent is from Don Rosa’s story, The Universal Solvent which was first published in 1995.
The Universal Solvent
Gyro Gearloose invents a new liquid solution for Scrooge McDuck in The Universal Solvent.
Scrooge brands the Universal Solvent as Omnisolve. He wants to use the liquid to mine for diamonds far below the Earth’s crust. Without listening to Gyro’s warnings to be careful, Scrooge dumps the Universal Solvent on the ground which causes a hole all the way to the core center of the Earth.
Scrooge, Donald, Huey, Dewey, and Louie have to journey to the center of the earth to retrieve the Universal Solvent before it causes enough natural disasters to destroy the planet.
The Universal Solvent can be found in Fantagraphics’ Don Rosa Library Vol. 6: The Universal Solvent.

Universal Solvent was then featured again in two more Don Rosa stories featuring Arpin Lusene/The Black Knight.
The Black Knight
The Black Night is a sequel to The Universal Solvent story. In this story, a nefarious French Master thief, Arpin Lusene, comes to Duckburg with one goal in mine…the Money Bin. His main takeaways from his first trip to the Money Bin is the jar of Universal Solvent from Scrooge’s safe and a Knight suit of arms from Castle McDuck.
He uses the Universal Solvent on the knight armor and sword to make the suit invincible. Buckle up for the Black Knight vs Scrooge McDuck Round 1.

The Black Knight Glorps Again
The Black Knight Glorps Again! is the third and final story featuring the Universal Solvent. Arpin Lusene is back in Duckburg looking for his Black Knight armor which was taken from him by Scrooge McDuck the last time that Arpin tried to rob Scrooge’s Money Bin. Lupin still has his sights on Scrooge’s Money Bin and treasure collection which is now stored at the Duckburg Museum. Lupin wants this to be his final big score before he retires, but he needs the black knight armor which is still covered in Universal Solvent. Scrooge and Gyro have the armor hidden in a secret hiding spot.
