Monterey Jack Funko POP Review

GameStop sold Funko mystery boxes this year on Black Friday, and each mystery box contained a randomly inserted Disney Afternoon character: Megavolt (Darkwing Duck), Wildcat (TaleSpin), Max (Goof Troop), Monterey Jack (Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers), Angela (Gargoyles). Each of these five characters also had an even rarer chase figure variant randomly inserted into these mystery boxes. The Monterey Jack and Max Funko POP figures are the first to be released from their series. I believe we will have a lot of Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers and Goof Troop to look forward to this year.

Let’s take a closer look at the standard Monterey Jack POP figure and the chase Monterey Jack POP figure.

Here we see a side by side shot of the boxes. The chase figure has a Limited Edition Chase sticker.

The back of both boxes are identical.

Here is a look at the front and back of the standard Monterey Jack figure.

The only difference between the standard edition and the chase edition are the eyes. In the show, Monterey Jack’s eyes would go crazy whenever he would smell cheese.

This year is the 30th anniversary of Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers which debuted on March 4th, 1989. This is the perfect year for Funko to roll out a complete series of Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers Funko POP figures. We also need the Rescue Rangers Plane as a Funko POP Ride.

Since Monterey Jack was a limited release in the GameStop Black Friday boxes, another Monterey Jack Funko POP figure in a different pose (maybe holding Zipper instead of a block of cheese) may be on the horizon. There is also the possibility of a flocked figure as well.

Funko has already released Chip, Dale, Gadget, and Zipper in their Disney Afternoon Action Figure line. So I suspect that Monterey Jack will be added to that line this Fall to complete the Rescue Rangers set for the action figures.

Chip, Dale, Gadget, Zipper, and Monterey Jack were also included in Funko’s Disney Afternoon Mystery Minis series.

Final Thoughts

I love this Funko POP figure. Monterey Jack is such a classic Disney Afternoon character voiced by Jim Cummings and Peter Cullen. There are plenty of Monterey Jack Funko POP figures available on the secondary market on eBay for reasonably low prices. The standard Monterey Jack Funko POP figure should be enough for your collection unless you just have to have everything. Happy Hunting!
