We recently discovered from reading Fantagraphic’s Don Rosa Library Vol. 2, that the man, the myth, the legend, the Don Rosa wrote the scripts for two TaleSpin episodes for Disney Television Animation.
Since we are on the road to becoming Don Rosa’s biggest fans and we also cover all Disney Afternoon shows, we wanted to do a blog about the two TaleSpin episodes that Don Rosa worked on.
The two TaleSpin episodes that Don Rosa wrote and did the storyboarding for were:
- It Came from Beneath the Sea Duck
- I Only Have Ice for You
It Came from Beneath the Sea Duck was the fourth episode of the series, and it aired on May 19th, 1990 on the Disney Channel. It was the sixth episode of the series when the show went into syndication in September that year.
Synopsis: Kit volunteers to babysit Molly while Baloo and Rebecca go shopping. The babysitting is anything but routine as Kit and Molly deal with air pirates and a giant squid.
I Only Have Ice for You was the first episode of the series, and it aired on May 5, 1990 on the Disney Channel. It was the ninth episode in the series when the show went into syndication in September that year.
The episode’s title is a reference to the Flamingos’ song “I Only Have Eyes for You.”
Synopsis: Rebecca takes over flying the Sea Duck after Baloo’s license is temporarily suspended while trying to evade air pirates. The move causes havoc as Higher For Hire attempts to deliver a block of ice to a wealthy desert prince.
Both of the Don Rosa TaleSpin episodes are available on the TaleSpin Vol. 1 DVD set.
If interested, you can purchase that dvd set here.
