Be Prepared!!!!
Yeah we’ll be prepared…for what?
We are prepared for Dynamite Comics new Disney Villains series which has debuted with everyone’s favorite brotherly lion and monkey’s uncle….Scar. I am not lion when I say that Dynamite Comics is creating new comic content from all of my favorite Disney IPs like Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, and the Disney Villains. Those big three pretty much sum up my Disney personality.
Dark Horse Comics was planning a Disney Villains line of comics a few years back starting with the sea witch, Ursula. I was so hyped for that Disney Villains comic series and then later bummed out to find that the planned series was cancelled when Dark Horse no longer had the license. Dynamite Comics has revived the idea of a Disney Villains comic series with the launch of Disney Villains: Scar. Scar is easily a top three Disney Villain for me along with Captain Hook and Gaston, but there is a near infinite list of Disney Villains that I would love additional content. Maleficent has already been announced as the second Disney Villain to get their own Disney Villains comic series from Dynamite Comics. The villain is always the star of every Disney animated movie and without the villain, you would not have your hero or princess.
The Disney Villains: Scar miniseries will run for four issues.
Today, we will take a look at Disney Villains: Scar #2 published by Dynamite Comics.

Official Synopsis: Eager vultures circle the diminished Scar. They offer him a path to the throne. They speak of a magic baobab fruit that will make him mightier than Mufasa himself. They will provide him with this fruit, in return for a horrible favor…
That synopsis for issue #3 is more accurate for the events that occur in this issue:
The cunning vultures have enticed Scar onto a dangerous path to power. He knows they’re lying…but they are a means to an end, and so Scar’s plan begins to take shape: He will travel to the Elephant Graveyard for an encounter with the Hyena Queen!
Covers
This is a Dynamite Comics release. So you know that there is going to be a lion’s share of covers. In this section, I am going to highlight some of my favorite covers for Disney Villains: Scar #2.
My Review
*STOP READING HERE IF YOU WANT TO AVOID ALL SPOILERS*
Surely we lions are not all that bad?
A herd of zebras are attacked by a pack of lioness hunters. We find out this hunt was persuaded by Scar. He told them that under his rule, the lioness could eat first and eat like queens. The hunters immediately regret their decision to hunt for Scar. The vultures from the first issue show up to put their plan in motion to befriend Scar and introduce him to the hyenas. They take Scar to the Elephant Graveyard which is a place that Scar has good memories of from his cub years. The issue ends with the setup that Scar will meet the Queen of the hyenas in the next issue.
This was another nostalgic journey back into the Pride Lands and Elephant Graveyard. The overhunting that Scar convinces the lioness hunters to do in this issue foreshadows the events that we see in The Lion King when Scar becomes king and effects the Circle of Life. I am definitely prepared for more, and I am still reading Scar’s words in Jeremy Iron’s voice. I am looking forward to meeting the hyena Queen in the next issue.
I just can’t wait for the next issue of Disney Villains: Scar which will be tentatively released June 14th, 2023. I am sad that we are at the half way point for the Disney Villains: Scar comic series. Also, please make sure to support the Dynamite Comics Darkwing Duck, Gargoyles, and Disney Villains: Maleficent comic series while you are out buying Disney Villains: Scar. I am excited for all future Dynamite Comics Disney Villain announcements.
Previews Catalog has stated that a trade paperback/hardcover will not be available until late 2025. So you will definitely want to keep the love and support for the Disney Villains comic series going by purchasing the individual issues.
Practice your curtsy for the Pride Lands future King, and Be Prepared to feel the love for Dynamite Comics Disney Villains: Scar.
