The Official Walt Disney Quote Book (Disney Editions Deluxe) Review

The Walt Disney Company, which was founded on October 16th, 1923, is celebrating 100 Years of Wonder this year. To help commemorate this milestone anniversary, Disney Publishing is joining in on the celebration by releasing a collection of must-have Disney 100 deluxe editions.

Today we will take a look at The Official Walt Disney Quote Book. This is the third Walt Disney quote book that has been published. Walt Disney: Famous Quotes (1994) and The Quotable Walt Disney (2001) set the foundation for this new book. As a Walt Disney fan, I used both of those books often for inspiration. They were essential books for many of the school projects or papers that I did on Walt Disney during my school days as well as my kids. Both of those books were published only in paperback editions. The Official Walt Disney Quote Book is an upgraded hardcover edition expanded to 352 pages.

Thank you Disney Publishing for sending us this copy for review so that we can be inspired and quote Walt Disney.

Product Description:

Walt Disney once said, “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island and at the bottom of the Spanish Main. . . .” Never has this been truer than within these pages.

This collection of quotations from the co-founder of The Walt Disney Company ranges from the well-known to the obscure, but all are assured to entertain, enlighten, and inspire. His words have been gleaned from publications, productions, and interviews over the breadth of his amazing career. Some are simple nuggets of homespun wisdom, while others are statements of knowledge gained while he crafted the enchanting films, televisions shows, and unparalleled experiences that are so beloved by audiences the world over.

The Official Walt Disney Quote Book is conveniently broken up into different subject matter categories to help you find the inspirational Walt quote that you are looking for:

  • On Mickey Mouse
  • On storytelling
  • On the Disney theme parks
  • On business and the Walt Disney Company
  • On success and failure
  • On money

  • On family
  • On education
  • On America
  • On animals and nature
  • On art, music, and dance

In addition to the quotes, this book also showcases some rare Walt Disney photos from the Walt Disney Archives.

I often read on social media, what would Walt Disney think on a subject matter. You can read his thoughts on a lot of topics through his own words in this official quote book. He may have said all of these quotes over half a century ago, but his philosophies, ideals, dreams, and hopes for the future are still relevant today. The Official Walt Disney Quote Book and Walt Disney: An American Original by Bob Thomas are the best reference guides that you can get for the legend, Walt Disney. It is very fitting that both of those books got commemorative deluxe editions for the Disney 100 Years of Wonder.

Here are a few of my favorite Walt Disney quotes:

“Until a character becomes a personality it cannot be believed. Without personality, the character may do funny or interesting things, but unless people are able to identify themselves with the character, its actions will seem unreal. And without personality, a story cannot ring true to the audience.”

“I’ve never believed in doing sequels. I didn’t want to waste the time that I have doing a sequel; I’d rather be using the time doing something new and different. It goes back to when they wanted me to do more pigs.”

“When I started on Disneyland, [my wife] used to say, ‘But why do you want to build an amusement park?” They’re so dirty.’ I told her that was just the point—mine wouldn’t be.”

“I don’t want the public to see the world that they live in while they’re in the park. I want them to feel like they’re in another world.”

“There’s really no secret about our approach. We keep moving forward—opening new doors and doing new things—because we’re curious. And curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. We’re always exploring and experimenting. At WED, we call it Imagineering—the blending of creative imagination and technical know-how.”

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”

“You can dream, create, design and build the most wonderful place in the world…but it requires people to make the dream a reality.”

And of course the most famous Walt Disney quote:

“I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing—that it was all started by a mouse.”

A source section is included at the end of the book that lists where each and every quote in the book was found.
