Gargoyles #4 (Cover by David Nakayama)

Official Synopsis: All-new ongoing series, in continuity with the epic GARGOYLES television classic!

Dino Dracon has just been released from prison. Determined to take over the new York underworld, Dino won’t let anyone – human or Gargoyle – stand in his way! So when Goliath and Hudson go out on their nightly patrol, they’re in for a couple of extremely nasty surprises!

My Review

David Nakayama’s absolutely dynamite cover features a closeup of a very angry Goliath. David’s Gargoyles covers never disappoint.

The other Dynamite Comics Gargoyles variant incentive cover series that I am collecting is the action figure variant cover by Brent Schoonover and Alberto Silver. Brooklyn stars on the cover of Gargoyles #4. Brooklyn looks just like the 1995 Kenner action figure. Bronx (Issue #5) and Demona (Issue #6) will be featured on the cover of future issues of this action figure variant cover series.

We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles.

The “Here in Manhattan” story that started out in Gargoyles #1 continues with Chapter Four: Tale Old As Time.

Eliza and Goliath are living a Beauty and the Beast fairytale life, but that is coming quickly to an end as Dino Dracon is finally being released from Sing Sing Correctional Facility. Dino is poised to take back the helm as the undisputed head of the five families. Dino is not playing around, and he is just as bad as advertised by the rest of the Dracons that were not looking forward to his arrival. Dino believes that defeating the Gargoyles who are working with the cops is the key to gaining his power back.

Lexington is feeling alone and distanced from Broadway and Brooklyn as his Gargoyles brothers have their own relationship pairings. Goliath and Hudson go on some Manhattan patrolling. They find trouble in Central Park as an abduction of a couple is going down by three people dressed in suits with gargoyles masks of Brooklyn, Broadway, and Lexington. Someone is obviously trying to make the Gargoyles look bad. George Kambadais’ excellent variant cover this month had the gargoyles mask wearing mobsters on it. Well played George…well played.

Gargoyles #4 (George Kambadais)

Helicopters showed up during Goliath’s scuffle with the Brooklyn masked mobster. Goliath is ultimately captured and trapped by a net shot from the helicopters. The issue ends on that dreadful scene. We will have to find out about Goliath’s fate in the next issue.

We get a shadowy tease in this issue of what appears to be another villain watching news reports. I can’t wait for more villains and Demona to join the fun. Demona graces the cover of the action figure variant cover of Gargoyles #6 and the main cover of Gargoyles #7. So we may have to wait a little bit for her full arrival. There was no Thailog or David Xanatos in this issue, but Dino is primed to cause some villainous trouble for our Gargoyles friends.

All of the Gargoyles issues thus far have been action packed with gorgeous art and a lot of great storytelling and dialogue. I wish that the issues were longer than 22 pages because I want more Gargoyles. This comic series is so fantastic that I hope it lasts one thousand years as it is a “Tale Old As Time”.

Weisman and Kambadais are crushing all Eyrie Tower high expectations for this Gargoyles comic series.

I can’t wait for the next issue of Gargoyles which will be tentatively released April 19th, 2023. Also, please make sure to support the Dynamite Comics Darkwing Duck series while you are out buying Gargoyles
