I am the terror that flaps in the night.
I am Darkwing Duck!
Beast Kingdom revealed last year that some of our favorite characters from the Disney Afternooniverse would be coming to their Dynamic 8ction Heroes figure lineup. Those characters included Darkwing Duck, Negaduck, Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Goliath. Beast Kingdom’s Dynamic 8ction Heroes figures are highly articulated 1/9th scale figures. The figures also come loaded with accessories and alternate parts so that you can customize the character for your display.
Our friends at Beast Kingdom sent over the Darkwing Duck Dynamic 8ction Heroes figure for us to showcase on the blog. Let’s get reviewing!
Packaging
The packaging for this Darkwing Duck figure comes in a square purple box with artwork of the figure on the front of the box. The logo for the original Darkwing Duck series from 1991 is up top and center and is also featured on the side of the box. The figure is titled DuckTales Darkwing Duck, but the design of the figure is definitely for the original Darkwing Duck series and not DuckTales (2017). There are some other DuckTales (2017) references in the inside packaging that we will point out below.
The inside flap of the box features the Darkwing Duck silhouette logo from DuckTales (2017) as well as a giant moon, smoke, and St. Canard skyline inspired by the DuckTales (2017) animation style.
Here is a side by side comparison picture of both the Beast Kingdom Darkwing Duck and Negaduck Dynamic 8ction Heroes box art.
Darkwing Duck (DAH-040)
The Canardian Guardian stands at 6.5 inches tall and looks even better in person than in the original promotional photos. The coloring of his hat is dark gray as opposed to light gray like in the show. DW is also a little more rounder, but that definitely helps with the weight distribution of the figure for balancing purposes with your Darkwing display poses. The figure stands great on it’s own, and it is highly articulated for ultimate possibilities with your Darkwing posing.
The head sculpt and overall look of his costume reminds me of the Darkwing Duck character that you may occasionally find for meet and greets at Disney Parks. I am definitely a Disney Parks person so that makes me love this figure even more.
Accessories
The Beast Kingdom Darkwing Duck (DAH-040) figure comes with a collection of accessory items to customize Drake Mallard for play or display. The alternate parts are all really easy to swap out to your liking.
- Three (3) alternate eye masks
- Two alternate beaks (open/closed)
- Six (6) pairs of alternate hands
- Darkwing’s hat
- Grappling Gun / Gas Gun
It is great to have a Darkwing Duck action figure that can actually hold his gas gun / grappling gun. The three different options to display the signature Darkwing Duck gas gun / grappling gun is a fun added bonus.
- Soft goods suit and cape
The soft good suit and cape help to cover most of Darkwing’s articulation joints. One of my favorite features is that the cape has wiring in it that will allow you to have Darkwing’s cape in dynamic poses.
- Darkwing Duck figure base with bracket
The figure base is a really nice addition, but this figure does not need the bracket to stand on it’s own. The base will look great in a display that has other Beast Kingdom Dynamic 8ction Heroes figures on their stands.
Dangerous Photos
Review
There have been other Darkwing Duck action figures released in the past, but this one really stands out. I was really hyped when this figure was first announced and revealed, but it looks even better in person and exceeded my expectations. It is a dangerous dream come true to have my favorite Disney character in 1/9th scale size with such great articulation and customizations to pose in my Darkwing Duck collection. I love the alternate eyes/mask, beaks, and hands accessories. I am thrilled that Beast Kingdom also chose to release a Negaduck figure in their Dynamic 8ction Heroes figure line. This gives me hope that other characters from the show could get released if Darkwing and Negaduck sells well. I would love to see Beast Kingdom expand on this collection with Launchpad McQuack, Gosalyn Mallard, Bushroot, Megavolt, Liquidator, and Quackerjack. Get dangerous and get this amazing Darkwing Duck figure!

Wish they would’ve fixed that TERRIBLE underbite-heavy closed beak (his “chin” looks entirely different in animation), and made his legs the length they’re supposed to be (longer)!
Both Funko (articulated action figure) and QMx (Qfig) did a better job with the character. Really wanted to like this one, but just can’t get myself to…
