Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has been one of my favorite movie franchises since the release of the first film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. There was not a lot of merchandise released to coincide with the first movie, but the merchandise ship really set sail for the Pirates of the Caribbean movie sequels.

Diamond Select Toys recently released a Jack Sparrow figure from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. There should really be a captain in there somewhere. Let’s take a closer look at Captain Jack Sparrow.

Packaging

The promotional photo that is used on the back of the box is scary and not a flattering picture of the figure.

Captain Jack Sparrow

Captain Jack Sparrow features 16 points of articulation which is great for posing this pirate legend. All of Jack’s pirate clothes and artifacts are all accurately sculpted.

The head sculpt looks really detailed with the sculpted hair, hat, bandana, facial hair, and pirate flair. It is not a 100% Johnny Depp face, but it is very much Captain Jack Sparrow.

Accessories

This figure pack is light on the extras with one swappable hand holding Captain Jack’s sword and a display base with a peg to help the figure stand. Jack stands really well on his own so I did not use the base. Jack’s pistol or rum bottle would have been great additional accessories. Why is the rum always gone?

There is another Captain Jack Sparrow figure pack from Diamond Select Toys that also includes a piece of a pirate ship deck diorama.

This is the only Pirates of the Caribbean action figure by Diamond Select Toys so far. A Barbossa figure from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was also developed by Diamond Select Toys, but it has not been scheduled for release yet.

Captain Jack Sparrow was not included in the Kingdom Hearts action figure line, but he fits in really well when displayed with other figures from the legendary video game series.

Final Thoughts

As a Captain Jack Sparrow super fan, this figure met my high expectations. I was really nervous after initially seeing the promotional photo for this release, but the figure looks great in person.

If you were waiting for the opportune moment to purchase Captain Jack Sparrow, this is it.

I really hope this figure sells well so that Diamond Select Toys might consider adding additional Pirates action figures to this series like Elisabeth Swann, Will Turner, Barbossa, Davey Jones, Black Beard, and Captain Salazar.
