Review – IDW’s DuckTales #13!

Look who showed up early this month! IDW is getting the jump on DuckTales October Mania (can we copyright that?) by treating us to a new issue of DuckTales early this month. Yes, on October 20th we will all rush to our couches to catch the season two premiere, but you can enjoy a couple of enjoyable stories about our favorite characters on Wednesday October 3rd.

Before we get into the review, let’s take a look at the issue’s description provided by IDW.

Two brand-new stories of life in Duckburg await in DuckTales #13! Join Scrooge McDuck, Donald Duck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Webby, and their friends as they deal with the “Countdown to Termination” and hit the ice in “The Mighty Ducks of Duckburg!”

I’m going to do something different this week and begin by telling you the art in this issue is some of my favorite in the series. I love how expressive the characters are (especially Gyro)! The scenes are fun, detailed, and feel like they came right off your television screen.

As for the stories, I really enjoyed them. The first one felt like a complete story even though they are always a little short. I’m telling you, you do not want to miss this Gyro-centric story. I laughed out loud a couple of times while reading it. Oh! And there is a Bubba the Cave Duck deference.

The second story was fun, but it does feel like the reader is dropped into the middle of a story. There is no background as to how the characters became part of the Duckburg Mighty Ducks. We just know the game is an important one, and the kids are desperate to win. I did enjoy the action as they faced off against the Beagle Boys on the ice.

Check out the covers below. As of the time of writing this review the incentive cover hasn’t been shared online, but I’ll update this blog as soon as we see it. Click the covers to read a preview provided by IDW.
