With Darkwing’s magical amour Morgana Macawber now in Demona’s clutches, it’s a race against time for the Terror That Flaps in the Night to locate the two sorceresses before Morgana is coerced into revealing the location of the sinister spell book known as the Quackronomicon — and thus handing Demona the keys to world domination! But DW won’t get far without Elisa and Goliath’s help — and the head of the Manhattan Clan is down for the count until sunset. With half a day of downtime to contend with, can this unlikely trio of heroes crack the case before Morgana cracks under Demona’s interrogation? And while we’re on the subject, what have Launchpad and Gosalyn been doing all this time? The answers to these and many more burning questions will be revealed in the portent-filled pages of Gargoyles/Darkwing Duck #2 — crafted by tandem authors GREG WEISMAN and TAD STONES and artist CIRO CANGIALOSI, and enriched by hand-carved covers from STONES, CANGIALOSI, CLAYTON HENRY, and IVAN BIGARELLA!

My Recap
*STOP READING HERE IF YOU WANT TO AVOID ALL SPOILERS*
The title of the second issue in this four part Disney Afternoon Team-Up Crossover Comic Book Mini Series Event is The Mirror Quack’d Chapter 2: The Green Eyed Abyss Gazes, Also…
Darkwing Duck has taken on an unexpected new gig: Gargoyle Chaperone. His mission? Guard Goliath during the day—because protecting a massive stone warrior at ground level is obviously the perfect job for a hero renowned for his patience and calm demeanor. Darkwing waits (and waits… and waits) for nightfall while Goliath enjoys what Darkwing calls “sleeping on the job.”
Meanwhile, Demona—currently in her Dominique Destine guise—is growing increasingly frustrated as she interrogates Morgana, desperate to uncover the location of the Quackcronomicon. Elisa tracks down a warehouse recently rented under Destine’s name, and once night falls, the team springs into action.
Goliath glides the Manhattan skies with Elisa in his arms, while Darkwing rides on Goliath’s back. Goliath’s size and strength impresses Morgan which makes Darkwing thinks he is in competition with Goliath to save Morgana. Inside the warehouse, Demona unleashes the Green‑Eyed Monster idol, casting a jealousy spell that turns Darkwing against Goliath. The two clash until Squeak and Archie manage to knock the idol to the floor, shattering it and freeing Darkwing from Demona’s control.
Demona threatens Darkwing with her particle beam cannon. Morgana, unwilling to see him harmed, finally reveals the truth: the Quackcronomicon is hidden in the vault of Gandersnatch the Great, deep within the Mirror Realm. Brooklyn, Lexington, Broadway, Bronx, and Angela appear. It is great to see a full page with Darkwing and all of the Gargoyles. Demona heads into the Mirror Realm in search of the Quackcronomicon. But she’s not the only one on the hunt—Gosalyn has entered the Mirror Realm too, determined to secure the book before Demona.
Review
This series continues to be the ultimate Disney Afternoon millennial dream team‑up. Greg Weisman (plot and script) and Tad Stones (plot and Cover A) are delivering a story packed with nostalgia, charm, and pure entertainment. Every issue feels like a lost TV special that could have aired right alongside the classics we grew up with.
I’m especially excited to see how Darkwing’s dynamic plays out with the rest of the Manhattan Clan as the story unfolds. And honestly, I’m absolutely ready for some Launchpad McQuack and Broadway interactions—they’d be comedy gold.
I was already a huge fan of Ciro Cangialosi’s Darkwing work—from his standout Darkwing Duck covers to his illustrations on Dynamite’s Negaduck series. Seeing his style applied to the Gargoyles cast is a real treat. The colors by Ciro and Agnese Eterno give the entire world this bright, classic cartoon energy that feels straight out of the Disney Afternoon era.
I picked up the Tad Stones and Ivan Bigarella covers. The Tad Stones cover is essential to own for all Darkwing fans. I also went back and purchased the Ivan Bigarella virgin 1:30 incentive cover of issue #1 for the collection. Clayton Henry and Ciro Cangialosi’s covers are also fantastic. I wish I could afford to get them all. Carlo Lauro will provide cover art for issues #3 and #4.
A crossover straight from every ’90s kid’s wish list. We Live Again!…so Let’s Get Dangerous!
