In 2023, Marvel released a collection of twelve special edition variant covers depicting Mickey and Friends recreating classic Marvel covers to celebrate the Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary. These monthly variant covers were so popular that fans asked “What If…Marvel released not just covers but full issues featuring the Marvel & Disney mashups?” Marvel listened to their fan’s dreams for more.
There were a total of 7 issues created for the Marvel & Disney: What If…? series. You can click on any of the links below to read my review of each individual issue.
What If…Donald Duck Became Wolverine?
What If…Donald Duck Became Thor?
What If…Minnie Mouse Became Captain Marvel?
What If…Mickey and Friends Became The Fantastic Four?
What If…Mickey and Friends Became The Avengers?
What If…Donald Duck Became Iron Man?
What If…Goofy Became Spider-man?
Overall the series were really fun re-imaginations of the origin stories of some of Marvel’s greatest super heroes played by Mickey and Friends. I really enjoyed the entire series, and I would be excited if Marvel made more of these fun Marvel & Disney mashups in the future. The Donald Duck stories were among my favorites in this collection.
I love when comic book companies release collected editions of their popular series after the run has been completed. This month, Marvel released the Marvel & Disney: What If…? collected edition.

The complete collection of the Marvel & Disney: What If…? is available in a standard comic book size trade paperback. There is no hardcover edition. The collection is also available in a digital format edition. The collection currently retails for $24.99 in the trader paperback and $19.99 in the digital edition. The trade paperback is 224 pages. The book would look great on your bookshelf next to your other Marvel or Disney comics. Mickey Mouse as Iron Man and Donald Duck as Thor are on the spine of the trade Marvel & Disney: What If…? paperback.

Each of the individual issues included bonus content in the form of early concept art and character designs of the Disney characters as the Marvel heroes. That bonus material also shows up in this collectible trade paperback in addition to each comic issues’ letter from the editor. The Marvel & Disney: What If…? series had some really crazy good covers with many additional variant covers. I often found myself needing to purchase multiple variant covers for my collection. A cover gallery did not show up in the back of the individual issues, but a comprehensive cover gallery for all seven issues is included in the Marvel & Disney: What If…? trade paperback. This was a marvelous addition.
This book will look great on your book shelf next to your other Marvel or Disney trade paperbacks. Marvel released an oversized Gallery Edition hardcover of the mega hit Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime earlier this year. Marvel’s current Disney series is Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck. That four issue comic event will be available as a collected trade paperback in April/May 2026.

The Marvel & Disney: What If…? trade paperback can be picked up at your local comic book store or at online book retailers.

Even if you already own the individual comic issues, this collected edition is a must-have. Bringing all the stories together in a beautifully bound trade paperback, it offers the convenience of a single volume and includes an incredible cover gallery that fans will appreciate. Having everything in one place not only enhances the reading experience but also makes for a striking addition to your shelf alongside your Marvel and Disney collection.
A big thanks to our marvelous friends at Marvel for sending over this book for the review.
