Marvel Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck #2 Review

Marvel has been crushing it lately with the addition of some of our favorite Disney characters to their lineup of comics. Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime was followed up with seven Marvel & Disney: What If…? issues where Mickey and Friends got to live their epic Marvel super hero dreams. Now we get a new Uncle Scrooge tale, Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck, which links up with the events that took place in Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime. Unlike the other recent Marvel & Disney collaborations which were all one shots, Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck is a four issue mini series. The series will be written by Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime writer, Jason Aaron, and illustrated by a team of talented artists.

My Recap and Review

The story within Uncle Scrooge: Earth’s Mightiest Duck #2 is titled “Scrooge’s Worst Day Ever”. It starts off with pages illustrated by Ario Anindito showcasing Scrooge from his Scrooge “Buck” McDuck cowboy days confronting some horse poachers as he rides a grizzly bear. As the Buckaroo from the Badlands is sitting by the campfire, a portal opens up from above dropping young Scrooge and current Scrooge on top of him. All three Scrooges get chased by the Connoisseurs’ coin operated robots.

Esad Ribic then takes over illustration duties as the robots head to 1885 Dismal Downs, Scotland to take on Scrooge at Castle McDuck. The other Scrooges are also there to battle the robots. Scrooge feels like the memories of his life and times are melting away.

The Scrooges end up on the Cutty Sark ship where another Scrooge is a captain who is fighting robots. In these pages drawn by Pete Woods. All of the Scrooges convince current day Scrooge that he needs to think about the worst day of his life.

The title of this story is titled the worst day of Scrooge’s life because as the Scrooge’s travel to 1896 to visit with Klondike Scrooge of the Yukon drawn by Nick Bradshaw, Goldie is captured by the robots. Scrooge’s memories accelerate in being erased as Scrooge can no longer remember Goldie’s name.

In pages by Mirka Andolfo, the rebellion discover that Scrooge is being held hostage inside his empty money bin. Huey, Dewey, and Louie enlist the services of the Beagle Boys to help break into the money bin. They are sort of experts in that field. Scrooge is able to get free of his mind erasing helmet and as he escapes he ends up having a head on collision with Donald Duck which knocks both Scrooge and Donald out cold. We have to wait until the next issue to find out what happens to Scrooge and Donald.

Scrooge has collected a third of the Scrooges from his memories of the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck to help him in his battle against the Connoisseurs. I am hoping that we get some Scrooge Above All from Uncle Scrooge and the Infinity Dime as I loved that evil Scrooge design. The Beagle Boys working with the rebellion to help free real world Scrooge was also a fun twist. Maybe we will see some Flintheart Glomgold and Magica De Spell assists as well…? This comic series has been entertaining so far, and there are still two issues left.
