DuckTales #4 (Ivan Bigarella)

Official Synopsis:

They say that wisdom is the greatest of riches, and there’s a wealth of it to be found on the shelves of the Duckburg Library. But Huey, Dewey, Louie, and their Uncle Scrooge are looking for something more tangible in the depths of its historic stacks – a forgotten map to the world’s greatest treasure!

The hunt reminds Uncle Scrooge of an adventure from his early days with a young pilot named Launchpad McQuack, which he relates to the boys while they search for the map. All this racket draws the ire of the head librarian, Miss Bookbeak – who may hold the key finding their hidden quarry!

DuckTales #4 (Francesco Tomaselli)

My Recap

*STOP READING HERE IF YOU WANT TO AVOID ALL SPOILERS*

The current story arc in this DuckTales series is titled “Four Corners of Your World.” Part Four is named “Check Out!”. Scrooge and the boys tour of Duckburg takes them to the library. Scrooge tells them that the library as where they will find the greatest treasure in Duckburg. If they are to find this treasure, they are going to have to get around the librarian Mrs. Bookbeak. We get a wide shot of the library that shows a few familiar characters enjoying the library: Fenton Crackshell, Doofus, and Gyro Gearloose with Little Helper. Scrooge clarifies to the boys that they are in search of the key that will lead to the greatest treasure. They run into a character that I have been looking forward to in this series, Launchpad McQuack. This is the long awaited Launchpad McQuack issue. Launchpad is at the library checking out the book Piloting for Quacks. Scrooge uses Launchpad as a diversion by posing him into a plane position and launching and crashing him into Mrs. Bookbeak. This leads into another story memory from Scrooge of a time that Scrooge and Launchpad were on a treasure hunting adventure. This flashback story done in classic Disney Comics template style is titled “Mayday! Mayday!”, and it is a two part story. Scrooge and the boys continue to evade Mrs, Bookbeak while searching for the map to the Greatest Treasure in Duckburg until they finally crash from on top of a book shelf into a pile of books. This library has an insane amount of books. Mrs. Bookbeak figures out what they are looking for and hands them the map. She would have given it to them sooner if they would have just asked instead of sneaking around and being loud in her library.

The issue ends with “To Be Concluded…” which must mean that the Duckburg story arch ends in the next issue. On the last page of the issue, we get a preview that Gizmoduck and Bubba the Caveduck will be featured in a future issue.

DuckTales #4 (Alan Quah)

This is the second issue of DuckTales to release in March. It is great that the comic series is catching up after experiencing some delays earlier in the year. As mentioned in my review of the last issue, I am looking forward to globe trotting adventures and getting away from Duckburg after the Duckburg’s Greatest Treasure story line is wrapped up. It was great to see Launchpad McQuack featured in this issue and also get the spotlight on most of the covers.

Ivan Bigarella’s cover for each issue looks like it belongs in a Disney Duck museum. The Bigarella cover is definitely in my pull list along with Carlo Lauro’s color feature cover.

DuckTales fans, it is time to Woo-oo again!

DuckTales #4 (Carlo Lauro)

The next Dynamite adventure of DuckTales will crash land safely into your local comic book shop tentatively in May. Be sure to check out the other current Dynamite Comics Disney releases: Darkwing Duck and Zootopia
