My Review

We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles.
Gargoyles Quest’s fifth and final chapter is tilted “Queen of All She Surveys”. It is Thanksgiving 1997 and all of the humans in Manhattan are giving thanks to Demona their new queen. All humans including Elisa Maza, David Xanatos, Fox, and Puck. Demona might actually win and this series definitely has the same feel of one of my favorite Gargoyles animated series four parter episodes, City of Stone. Honestly, just let Demona win and rule us. She has been through enough and deserves it. This leads to one of my favorite panels of the entire series where Angela asks her mom what she has done. I genuinely laughed out loud at this image. It is great to see Angela still able to get this reaction from Demona.
This issue was dual illustrated by Pasquale Qualano and Gerardo Gambone. Gerardo, who is a huge Gargoyles fan and living his Gargoyles dream, was responsible for the first twelve pages which flows magnificently well with Pasquale’s illustrated conclusion to the Gargoyles Quest story. Hopefully, they both get more Gargoyles illustration work in the future.
Demona and her army of humans under her spell have the ultimate showdown against the Manhattan Gargoyles clan in an epic battle at the airport. Goliath, Angela, and Jade are able to wrestle the Three Keys of Power away from Demona. The Keys of Power are destroyed to release the humans from Demona’s trance once and for all.
At the end of the story, we find out that Demona gave an entranced Elisa Maza a job to carry out. Elisa tranquilized Bronx and Fu-Dog and stole Brooklyn and Katana’s egg holding Egwardo from the rookery. Demona vows to raise the Gargoyle hatchling to hate all humans and destroy them.
I have become a huge Clayton Crain fan, and I really wish that Crain would have been able to be the main cover artist for this final Gargoyles Quest issue to go along with his amazing covers for the previous four issues.
Greg Weisman delivers as usual. We have had twelve issues of the first Dynamite Comics Gargoyles series, five issues of the prequel Gargoyles Dark Ages series, a Halloween Special, and now this amazing Gargoyles Quest series. Gargoyles fans won’t have long to wait for more content as Gargoykes Demona #0 will release as part of Free Comic Book Day this upcoming Spring.
Greg Weisman and Pasquale Qualano are giving Gargoyles fans want they want, need, and crave….more Gargoyles Demona.
We get the gift of a Gargoyles Winter Special comic starring Bronx later this month. Be sure to check out the other Dynamite Comics Disney releases: DuckTales and Lilo & Stitch.
