Official Synopsis: Strange robots have flooded the streets of St. Canard, and only THE JUSTICE DUCKS can save the day! But even the combined might of STEGMUTT, GIZMODUCK, NEPTUNIA, MORGANA, and (of course) DARKWING DUCK may not be enough to stop the robots’ master: THE BOTHERER, who wants to transform innocent people into horrible stone creatures that will enable him to take over the city – and eventually the world!

It has been a long three months since Justice Ducks #1 hit comic shops. After a strong debut issue, I was very much looking forward to seeing the next adventure assembly of the Justice Ducks.

The title of the story in Justice Ducks #2 is “Day of the Maven”. It is great that each story in this series has an actual title to reference. Maven and Tulip have arrived in St. Canard from another time and space. Their Dr. Who(ish) mode of transportation is a magical wardrobe armoire ship, and their attire is also inspired by Dr. Who. We find out later that they traveled to Earth because they wanted to try some tofu dogs. It has been a theme of space and food from the first two issues of this series. It seems a second wardrobe armoire followed them to Earth. That armoire ship belongs to The Maven’s arch nemesis, “The Botherer.” We know he is the bad guy because he dresses in a black cloak and has a mustache. The Botherer is not here for speciality food. He has brought an robots that are programmed to fossilize and turn to stone the good citizen’s of St. Canard. The fossilized citizens, including one really good looking duck in a pirate hat, turn into a rock solider army for the Botherer. This sounds like a job for the Justice Ducks with the help of Maven and Tulip to protect the St. Canardians and stop the Botherer from taking over the world.

Just like the first issue of the Justice Ducks, this comic is definitely going in the right direction. The comic written by Roger Langridge does a great job of representing the personalities of each individual member of the Justice Ducks. Darkwing is still resistant to the team formula which is very in character. The humor and action are packed in all of the right places. Carlo Lauro continues to impress on his illustrations in this series giving each duck their due justice. He is definitely getting more practice drawing the rest of the team, and I feel like Langridge’s writing is giving him more action and comedy to illustrate in his panels. There is a lot of great Gizmoduck art in this issue, and who doesn’t love Gizmoduck?…besides Darkwing. Langridge and Lauro are two for two in delivering quality Darkwing Duck animated show like Justice Ducks entertainment.

There have not been any solicitations for Justice Ducks issues past issue #5. So enjoy this limited Justice Ducks run and also the Negaduck series which ends after issue #8 while we have it. Stay dangerous.

Justice Ducks #2 (Francesco Tomaselli)
