We are blessed with Clayton Crain as the main Cover A artists for this Gargoyles Quest series. This definitely makes it easy on me for my pull list as I love his art. Clayton was also the main Cover A artist for Gargoyles Dark Ages. Dynamite has gone with a cover bleed cover to replace the action figure variant covers which was a welcomed regular on my monthly Gargoyles pull list.

Thwarted in her earlier attempt to gain control of the ancient magical artifacts known as the Original Keys to Power, the evil DEMONA has set her sights on three New Keys that will give her the ability to make any human in her vicinity into her willing puppet. All that stands between Demona and world domination are Goliath and the Manhattan Clan. But despite their best efforts, Demona always seems to be a step ahead, gathering one Key after another. And once she has them all, the entire human race had better beware!

My Review

We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles.

Gargoyles Quest picks up where we left off from the self titled Dynamite Comics Gargoyles series. Gargoyles Quest’s first chapter is tilted “Questions”. We know from the previous Dynamite Gargoyles series that Coldstone and Antoinette Dracon are working for Demona. Demona’s evil plan is to claim the three new Keys to Power. Demona enlists Thailog to help her retrieve one of the keys. Demona is my favorite gargoyles from the animated series. She had a small part in the previous comic series. I am looking forward to more Demona in this continued storyline.

Ever since Goliath’s trial concluded, Goliath has attracted a following of human fans that are now obsessed with gargoyles. This also attracts the crazies and one tries to take Goliath out at a gathering event. It is none other than fan favorite character Vinnie Grigori from the animated series who shot Goliath in the face with a banana creme pie. Vinnie’s assassination attempt is unsuccessful.

Broadway and Angela’s commitment ceremony is coming up and Angela wishes that Demona could be present. I think her Angel Mom of the Night may actual show up since Coldstone overheard the conversation and will of course pass on the information to his secret boss.

The past two years has been a dream with the new Gargoyles content delivered to us by Dynamite Comics and Greg Weisman. This is the third Gargoyles comic series gift that fans will have received plus a bonus Halloween special last year. We also have to mention the successful Gargoyles Anniversary Kickstarter that will deliver to fans trades of all of the classic Gargoyles comic series from the past.

Greg Weisman is legendary and definitely one of the Keys of Power that keeps all of these Gargoyles comic series from Dynamite so authentically Gargoyles. He is joined by Pasquale Qualone as the newest artist to illustrate Gargoyles. Pasquale’s art makes you believe the story that you are digesting is a straight continuation of art from the 1990s animated show. Your eyes will be pleased at the dark tones of the comic transports you back to 1997…which was a really solid year. We are in good hands creatively for this gargoyles quest as we enjoy another season of Gargoyles.
