Diamond Select Toys Darkwing Duck and Negaduck Deluxe Figure Set Review

Diamond Select Toys is getting dangerous again with another collectible release from my favorite Disney Afternoon show, Darkwing Duck. This time the daring duck of mystery is packaged in a deluxe action figure set with his arch nemesis Negaduck.

Our friends at Diamond Select Toys sent over their new Darkwing Duck and Negaduck deluxe figure set for us to showcase on the blog.

Packaging

The Darkwing Duck and Negaduck deluxe figure box is huge measuring at 18.25” x 3.5” x 21”. If you plan on keeping these figures in it’s box, then you are going to want to make sure that you have the space. The window packaging allows complete access to view these magnificent figures in all their glory as well as the many accessories and interchangeable parts that are included in this deluxe set. The large plastic window would also be great to have Jim Cummings sign at a convention since he provided the voice for both characters.

The sides of the box feature some classic Darkwing Duck stock images.

The back of the box has early prototype sculpture images of the figures before they got their articulation. The final product of the actual figures looks even better than the prototype figure pics on the box. We also get some character quotes and figure credits. The figure was designed by David Forrest and sculpted by Varner Studios.

Darkwing Duck

The Darkwing Duck figure stands approximately 5 inches tall and has 11 points of articulation. Darkwing’s elbows have limited movement, and I have read some reviews where the figures elbow joint may be a little sensitive. I did not have any issues with posing the figure, but pose his arms with caution.

Both DW and Nega’s hat can take some patience fitting and balancing properly on their heads as both ducks have a tuft of feathers on top of their heads that sometimes makes it difficult to get their hats situated properly.

I believe that the pictures speak for themselves. It’s a Darkwing Duck figure that stands on it’s own, holds it’s accessory with ease, and poses well with it’s articulation.

The Darkwing Duck figures comes with two equally great interchangeable head sculpts options. I am a big fan of the sarcastic head sculpt.

Negaduck

The Negaduck figure stands approximately 5 inches tall and has 11 points of articulation.

Negaduck’s figure in the 1991 Playmate line was in the scrapped Darkwing Duck series 2. Negaduck fans would have to buy a second Darkwing Duck Playmates figure and paint it yellow, black, and red to mod it to a Negaduck figure. Negaduck fans can now proudly display this diabolical figure in all it’s evil glory.

The Negaduck figure comes with three interchangeable head sculpt options. The evil grin with teeth is my favorite.

If you do a Negaduck head swap on Darkwing’s body, you can get Negaduck’s disguised as Darkwing look from Just Us Justice Ducks.

Accessories

This is a Diamond Select Toys Deluxe figure release. So you know that DST is going to include some hot accessories. For DW, we get his trademark gas gun. Evil doers can suck gas with an accessory cloud of gas that can be attached to the end of the gas gun. Alternate gas gun attachments include a grappling piece and extended grappling piece.

Negaduck’s accessories are an interesting assortment of arsenals including a chainsaw, bazooka, a bomb, and a machete. He is a duck that also likes to get dangerous.

It is always refreshing when the figures can actually hold the accessories that they are packaged with. Both Negaduck and Darkwing can hold all of their accessories with ease.

This deluxe set also includes two alternate capes for each character. One of the capes is a casual relaxed cape, and the other cape has a dynamic flapping in the wind sculpt. Both capes are great, but they do cover both DW and Nega’s undershirts. I could personally use a little bit more of Darkwing Duck’s teal undershirt color on his figure.

Each duck comes with three different pairs of interchangeable hand options which are very important for holding accessories and getting your characters into their dynamic poses.

As someone who likes to swap up accessories and alternate prices, it is great to have so many fun options for posing these two dangerous ducks.

The gas gun accessories can also be used with the Diamond Select Toys deluxe PVC Diorama figure.

Comparisons

Let’s get comparison! This first pic is a lineup of all of the Darkwing Duck action figures released over the years (Playmates, Funko, Diamond Select Toys, and Beast Kingdom).

You can see that Darkwing has come a long way since the release of the initial Darkwing Duck action figure by Playmates in 1991.

Review

A deluxe Darkwing Duck and Negaduck action figure set release in the year 2024 is a dream come true. These figure sculpts have a lot of cartoony personality that will bring a goofy grin smile to your face as you admire them on your shelves in your collection. Major kudos to David Forrest on the design and Varner Studios on the sculpts. This deluxe set comes with amazing accessories and plenty of alternate swap out pieces for you to get some really great custom looks and poses in your displays which probably include other Darkwing Duck items. Don’t miss out on this great Darking Duck and Negaduck Deluxe Action figure set by Diamond Select Toys.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND

I still find it hard to imagine that one of my favorite toys and collectibles companies is making products from two of my all time favorite shows: Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles. Diamond Select Toys has included Darkwing in their Deluxe PVC Diorama and Deluxe Action Figure product lines. I would love to see DST make additional action figures of other characters from the show: Launchpad McQuack, Gosalyn, Quackerjack, Liquidator, Bushroot, Megavolt, Steelbeak, Morgana, Gizmoduck, Neptunia, and Stegmutt just to name a few. DST could also choose to include Darkwing characters into any of their other popular lines like Minimates, Mini-Busts, Legends in 3D Busts, and Premier Collection Statues. Show DST that they need to make more Darkwing products by picking up the PVC Diorama and the deluxe figure set. Let’s get even more dangerous Diamond Select Toys!
