Official Synopsis:

The beloved Disney villain – in her own FABULOUS series, darling!

Even though there’s absolutely no hard evidence that noted couturiere Cruella De Vil was ever involved in the theft of any Dalmatian puppies, her name has been ruined in all of the tabloids, and now her reputation in the fashion world is hanging by a thread. Which is why she’s willing to do anything – ANYTHING! – to restore her good name – even stealing the royal family’s priceless jewels!

How will that restore her reputation, you ask? You’ll just have to pick up this brand new entry in Dynamite’s Disney Villains adventures to find out! With a story (and a cover) by the astonishingly talented SWEENEY BOO, and interior art by the continentally sophisticated MIRIANA PUGLIA, Disney Villains: Cruella De Vil #1 also features covers from the intensely fashionable JOSHUA MIDDLETON!

Cruella De Vil has been cleared of all dognapping allegations of Anita and Roger Radcliffe’s missing Dalmatian puppies which have since returned. There was simply not enough evidence to convict Ms. De Vil. She and her reputation have been vindicated. All of the animals especially the dogs around London know the truth about Cruella and the Dalmation puppies that she had planned to turn into coats, and the dogs will not let her off the hook as easily as the courts.

We first see Cruella outside her residence which has caught a blaze. We get introduced to a bulldog named Jeffries who will fill us in on everything that happened leading up to that point and starting from when Cruella leaves the court house free from charges. Like all celebs that are mixed up in a scandal, she tries to restore her reputation by getting involved in charities and publicity events. She opens up Devil Pet Shop and donates to dog shelters, but the canines chase her all over town and won’t let her forget her crimes against them.

There is a comical scene of Cruella trying to relax when the Cruella song that Roger Radcliffe wrote about her is played on the radio. That song is so iconic and one of my favorite things about the 101 Dalmation movie. It was fun to see Cruella’s reaction to the song.

Cruella hosts an elegant party at her residence that is interrupted and ruined by a chihuahua at the party who calls for other dogs via the Twilight Bark to join him in ending the party in destruction and chaos.

Disney Villains: Cruella De Vil #1 (Joshua Middleton)

This comic inspired me to go back and rewatch the 1951 Walt Disney animated classic, 101 Dalmations.

There have been a lot of live action and animated adaptations, prequels and sequels to 101 Dalmations (7 on Disney+), but this story written by the team of Sweeney Boo and illustrated by Miriana Puglia feels the most authentic and connected as an immediate continuation to the 1951 classic. Puglia’s panels look very faithful to the animation style of the movie. If you are wondering what happened to Cruella De Vil after she crashed her roadster car at the end of 101 Dalmations, then you need to get those puppies…er, get those comics!

Darling…look out for Cruella De Vil!
