Beast Kingdom Dynamic 8ction Heroes Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers Set Review

Sometimes, some crimes go slippin’ through the cracks
But these two gumshoes are pickin’ up the slack
There’s no case too big, no case too small
When you need help, just call

Ch-ch-ch-Chip ‘n Dale
Rescue Rangers!

Beast Kingdom is bringing fans another Disney Afternoon with the addition of Chip and Dale to their Dynamic 8ction Heroes figure line. They join the following other Disney Afternoon character alums: Scrooge McDuck, Huey, Dewey, Louie, Darkwing Duck, Negaduck, and Goliath. Beast Kingdom’s dedication to the line with all of our favorite early 90s Disney characters is making for a pretty rad collection.

Chip and Dale in their Rescue Rangers attire were first on display at Beast Kingdom’s booth at SDCC in the summer of 2022. A year and a half later, the chipmunks are starting to arrive in homes. Our friends at Beast Kingdom sent me a set to showcase on our blog and solve the “Case of the Dynamic Chipmunks.”

Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers debuted in 1989 and celebrates it’s 35th anniversary this year. As far as early collectible merchandise goes, the Rescue Rangers had some Bend ‘Em figures and the ever popular Kellogg’s cereal and McDonalds promotional toy figures. In the late 2010s, Funko would include some of the members of the Rescue Rangers in their popular Disney Afternoon action figure line, Mystery Minis, and Funko POP! collections. In the 2020s, Beast Kingdom featured Rescue Rangers Chip and Dale in their Mini Egg Attack and Mastercraft Statue collections. We will take a look at how the new Beast Kingdom Dynamic 8ction Heroes figure set compares to some of the other releases mentioned above.

Packaging

Beast Kingdom Dynamic 8ction Heroes DAH-057 (Rescue Rangers Chip and Dale) comes packaged in a colorful box featuring a window that displays the figures and most of the accessories for this set so that collectors that like to keep their toys mint in box can easily display the box and still look at the toys inside. Even though it is a nice and organized colorful box, I can’t imagine keeping these two gumshoe chipmunks captive in the box.

The Rescue Rangers logo used on the top of the box and on one of the box sides is from the 2022 Emmy Award winning Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers movie from Disney+. I would love some movie related merch or figures.

Chip

Chip’s look is inspired by Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. One of my favorite features from the Dynamic 8ction Heroes figure line is that Beast Kingdom will often use soft good materials whenever they can. Chip’s leather bomber jacket looks and feels amazing in soft goods. Chip’s hat is made of plastic and is removable in case you want a hatless look for some reason. Chip is around four inches tall and features twelve points of articulation including his tail. The scale for this collection is 1/9 scale, but I almost feel like this could be close to life-size for what I had imagined the height of Chip and Dale to be.

It would have been great if this set came with alternate eyes to be able to customize the chipmunks’ eyes to look in different directions. You can tell a lot about a figure from looking into their eyes, and Chip looks like he has definitely seen some things in his life with the included set of eyes.

Dale

Dale’s look is inspired by Tom Selleck as Magnum P.I.. Dale’s Hawaiian shirt also looks amazing in soft goods. I wish I had that Hawaiian shirt in my size, but I don’t think I could pull it off as well as Selleck or Dale. Dale is around four inches tall and features twelve points of articulation including his tail.

Accessories

We get a couple of miniature accessories for Chip and Dale to hold for their crime solving adventures: magnifying glass, shovel, and binoculars. The binoculars take some patience for the chipmunks to hold, but the magnifying glass and shovel slide easily into special alternate hands. Real glass for the magnifying glass would have been fun.

The chipmunks are packaged with five sets of alternate hand combinations and two alternate laughing faceplates.

The laughing chipmunk faceplates are really expressive and cute and easy to swap out. Chip and Dale are always cracking each other up in their adventures and hijinks. The optional faceplate definitely adds the fun to this set to give collectors a way to mix up their posing and displays. I also like that I was able to get the chipmunks to sit and laugh for this photo shot below.

A third member of the Rescue Rangers team, Zipper, is included in this set as a bonus static figure.

Comparison

The closest figure comparisons that we have to this new Rescue Rangers set of figures by Beast Kingdom are the Disney Afternoon Action Figures by Funko that were released a few years ago. The set from Funko was excellent, but I really enjoy the articulation, soft goods, and scale of the figures from Beast Kingdom.

We really need Gadget and Monterey Jack figures from Beast Kingdom to complete the Rescue Rangerts team. Funko did not make a Monterey Jack figure.

Review

I love this set and think it would be a worthy addition to your collection to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers. The articulation of these figures will give you plenty of options for your display. Beast Kingdom continues to add great characters from the Disney Afternoon to their Dynamic 8ction Heroes product line which is turning out to be a great collection for Disney Afternoon fans.

Hopefully this Chip and Dale figure set sells well enough to help convince Beast Kingdom to release a Gadget and Monterey Jack 2-pack as well as the Ranger Plane that was on display at the Beast Kingdom booth at SDCC 2022. Fans need the remaining members of the Rescue Rangers and that Ranger Plane would be a dream piece in the collection.

  1. “Chip looks like he has definitely seen some things in his life with the included set of eyes.”

I understand the whole thing about not looking a gift horse on the mouth and all that, but that must be your way of saying that this particular set definitely has Chip’s pupils going pretty wonky! 🥴 For THAT price, this would be one to pick out in store, rather than order online! 👉👁👈 Yikes!!!

I like their articulation as well, and I usually don’t like fabrics with my action figures, but this is a good one with just the shirt and jacket; though I wish they’d be consistent and offer a fabric fedora as well.

Other minor nitpicks: I love the cute laughing faces, but Dale’s throat should really be black instead of white (probably too narrow to paint with his teeth in the way, I presume). The magnifying glass (again, for THAT price) should be see-through (and even “work”) — heck, if Playmobil can do it!?! 🔍 And lastly, they suffer from the same problem as all the Duck figures: The way they stand so wide-legged makes it look as if they’re constantly taking a dump! 😳💩😆

    Thanks for the review!

    • Hey Skip! Thanks for the comment with your observations. That one crazy eye of Chip is like that on all of the production copies. The original promotional photos had a different eye positioning where it is not staring straight ahead. The Mickey and Donald Dynamic 8ction Heroes had alternate eyes so you could switch them out and the character could look in any direction. This release could have benefited from the same alternate eye treatment. I really need to find a good real mini magnifying glass to use with these figures as it would be fun to see the chipmunks faces magnified as they are looking for clues. We need that Ranger Plane!

  2. Ah, thanks for clarifying! That eye’s a mighty bad production boo-boo, then… bummer! 😧 And yes, they should’ve made ’em swappable for sure!

We need the plane, the mice, the fat cat, some henchmoles/-rats and -lizards, and all in scale, please and thank you! 😁
