Ravensburger Disney Villainous Filled with Fright Review

Well, well, well, what have we here?

Ravensburger launched their Villainous game franchise in July 2018 with Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes It All. That first set included Captain Hook, Jafar, Maleficent, Prince John, Queen of Hearts, and Ursula. The board game went on to win the Toy of the Year award at Toy Fair in 2019. Since then, Ravensburger has released six Disney Villainous expansion packs, four Marvel Villainous games, and two Star Wars Villainous games. Everyone knows that the best part of any Disney, Marvel, or Star Wars movie is the villain. This is why Ravensburger continues to see more releases and success.

Our Villainous friends at Ravensburger sent over some of their newest Villainous releases for us to showcase on the blog. Today we will be looking at the latest Disney expansion pack, Disney Villainous: Filled with Fright.

This new single expansion pack features Oogie Boogie from the classic holiday tale The Nightmare Before Christmas. Whether you classify the movie as a Halloween or Christmas film. you can celebrate this legendary villain and play the game all year long.

Packaging

Disney Villainous: Filled with Fright features a light green themed box with the shadow on the moon at night, Oogie Boogie, front and centered on the cover of the box.

The back of the box shows off pictures of Oogie’s realm, sculpted mover, and dice.

The interior of the box is themed to look like the collection of bugs that live inside Oogie Boogie’s burlap sack.

This is a single character pack featuring only Oogie Boogie which means this is not the full game experience. You will have to match it up with Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil or any of the other Disney Villainous expansion packs that include at least three villains to play the game. This is a true expansion pack on another version of the game that you already own. Note: The game is not compatible to mix and match with Marvel Villainous or Star Wars Villainous.

The sculpted villain movers are always a favorite for Disney Villainous players. Oogie’s piece is a green translucent miniature version of his burlap sack with his evil face on the front and bug details on the back.

Like most previous Villainous releases, there is a special collector’s edition version of the game available at Target that comes with a variant of the sculpted villain mover. The collector’s edition mover is glow-in-the-dark.

Target Exclusive Mover

Disney Villainous games are designed for 2-4 players of ages 10+. You can watch great instruction videos on Ravensburger’s YouTube.

You win a Villainous game by completing your chosen villain’s objective. Each Disney Villain’s objective is listed on their realms game card.

Oogie Boogie’s objective is to “Defeat Jack Skellington”.

Oogie Boogie comes with his own specially crafted themed dice which match the dice that he throws during his Oogie Boogie song in the film.

Snake Eyes!

The art used on the and Villain Deck and Fate Deck cards appear to be screen grabs from the film which is a little bit of a bummer since previous sets have features gorgeous original art. It is a good thing that the movie includes such great scary art and animation.

Review

Oogie Boogie was definitely towards the top of my list of Disney Villains that Ravensburger has not yet incorporated into Disney Villainous. Oogie Boogie’s popularity has risen even higher with him as the star of Disney’s California Adventure Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween Party. He is the 22nd villain to join the Disney Villainous family. The variety of star Disney Villain characters and Ravensburger’s commitment to this gaming franchise makes it one of my overall favorite board games to play. Disney Villainous: Filled with Fright is an easy recommendation for Disney fans to expand on their Disney Villainous collection.

Here is a long list of Disney Villains characters that I would love for Ravensburger to add in the future: Magica DeSpell, Flintheart Glomgold, Beagle Boys, Negaduck, Megavolt, Bushroot, Quackerjack, Liquidator, Fat Cat, Demona, David Xanatos, Judge Claude Frollo, Shere Khan, Chernabog, and the Headless Horseman.
