Ravensburger Disney Villainous Introduction to Evil Review

Ravensburger launched their Villainous game franchise in July 2018 with Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes It All. That first set included Captain Hook, Jafar, Maleficent, Prince John, Queen of Hearts, and Ursula. The board game went on to win the Toy of the Year award at Toy Fair in 2019. Since then, Ravensburger has released six Disney Villainous expansion packs, four Marvel Villainous games, and two Star Wars Villainous games. Everyone knows that the best part of any Disney, Marvel, or Star Wars movie is the villain. This is why Ravensburger continues to see more releases and success.

Our Villainous friends at Ravensburger sent over some of their newest Villainous releases for us to showcase on the blog. Today we will be looking at a new special release to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary, Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil.

Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil is a limited edition collector’s edition of the legendary original Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes It All.

Packaging

Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil features a silver themed box with everyone’s favorite Sea Witch, Ursula, front and centered on the cover of the box. The front of Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes It all has a green box featuring Maleficent on the cover.

A shiny holographic Disney 100 logo can be found on the left hand corner of the box to let you know that this is an official Disney 100 product celebrating the Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary. So shiny!

The back of the box features the Disney Villains that can be found in this edition.

This Disney 100 edition of Disney Villainous is compatible with all other Disney Villainous expansions. Note: The game is not compatible to mix and match with Marvel Villainous or Star Wars Villainous.

We need to talk about which evil villains are celebrated in Introduction to Evil. This new edition includes four of the six villains from The Worst Takes It All. Captain Hook, Maleficent, Prince John, and Ursula are represented by four limited edition lustrous finish variant sculpted game movers. Special edition movers is not new to Villainous as Target usually will have an exclusive edition with a special edition varian mover piece for one of the featured villains. You can definitely see the details better on these new lustrous edition movers.

The two Disney villains that were not included from the original release are Jafar and the Queen of Hearts. Below is a picture of the sculpted movers of the four characters that are included in both releases for comparison. The original edition’s sculpted movers are translucent.

Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil is designed for 2-4 players of ages 10+. You can watch great gameplay videos on Ravensburger’s YouTube.

You win a Villainous game by completing your chosen villain’s objective. Each Disney Villain’s objective is listed on their realms game card.

All of the villains included in Disney Villainous: Introduction to evil are amazing people and heroes in their own mind. I love all villains from Disney, but my all time favorite Disney Villain is Captain Hook.

Captain Hook’s objective is to “Defeat Peter Pan at the Jolly Roger”.

The best thing about Ravensburger games are the attention to detail in the themes and the artwork. All of the original artwork in Disney Villainous games pay tribute to the villains as if they were the true heroes of the story. This game’s artwork belongs in a museum. Check out some of the artwork for the honorable Captain James Hook from his Villain Deck.

The Fate Deck cards which feature the anti-hero heroes of the game are pretty swell as well.

The only other difference between the original Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes All and Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil is that some of the wording on the cards and instructions may have been updated as Ravensburger released the original 5 years ago and may have wanted to update some of the lingo to better go along with later releases to make it easier for players.

Review

I am a die hard Disney Villains fan and fan of Ravensburger designed games. The company knows how to make a themed game into a work of art for fans to treasure. Each game is ultimate fan service. Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil is a great way to get into Villainous if you do not already have the original Disney Villainous: The Worst Takes It All release. If you already have the original, then you can probably sit this villain round out. There are plenty of other Villainous expansion packs for you to pick up for your gaming collection. On the other hand or Hook, if you are a collector and/or completionist then you might want to consider picking up this new edition to celebrate Disney 100 with the fancy new Ursula box and limited edition lustrous finish movers. I have seen people pick up both the standard edition and Target special editions just to make sure that they have all of the Villainous mover variants. Whatever you decide, I hope you have an evil time on your next game of Disney Villainous.
