Funko Games Funkoverse: Peter Pan Review

Think of a Wonderul Thought.

My prior experiences with Funkoverse were 1 vs 1 battles with one of my kids. The two Funkoverse sets that were in my board game collection were The Nightmare Before Christmas and Darkwing Duck. Two of my all time favorite Disney IPs. My eyes were recently opened to why you can’t spell Funkoverse without the word fun when my best friend and I competed in the Funkoverse World Championships 2023 Edition at Gen Con.

It was at the Funkoverse World Championships that I discovered Funkoverse gets more fun when you mix your characters with other Funkoverse games and expansion packs. Also the more people that you play with increases the fun factor. The Funko Games booth and especially the Funkoverse Championship definitely ranked high in my Gen Con 2023 highlightsthat we made it into the top 24 Funkoverse players in the world.

Pirate Steven and Patrick Papa Echo

This ultimate good time made me wonder what other Disney Funkoverse sets were out there. In addition to the Nightmare Before Christmas Funkoverse set and the Darkwing Duck Funkoverse expansion pack, Funko Games has released an Alice in Wonderland expansion pack featuring Alice and the Queen of Hearts and a Peter Pan expansion pack featuring Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Peter Pan is my favorite classic Disney animated film and Captain Hook is one of my favorite Disney Villains. So it was an easy choice as to which IP I wanted to check out next in Funkoverse.

Packaging

The standard Funkoverse packaging has a window of the front of the box displaying the figures that come with this expansion set.

The box features art work of a stylized Funko POP! version of Captain Hook chasing Peter Pan up the crow’s nest. I wish Funko would have released some animated shorts for the Walt Disney Company’s 100th anniversary because a Peter Pan Funko short would have been fun.

The side of the box features some more posed pictures of Funko Peter Pan and Captain Hook.

The back of the box shows the contents of what is inside the box. We will take a closer look at each of those items in this blog.

Peter Pan and Captain Hook

Peter Pan
Captain Hook

Each figure has a hand can hold any Funkoverse item, whether it is the sword that comes with this expansion set or Darkwing Duck’s Gas Gun from his expansion set. The figures can stand just fine on their own.

Double-Sided Map

One side of the board game map features Captain Hook’s ship, the Jolly Roger.

There are several hidden details and treasures from the Peter Pan movie all over this map. My favorite section is from the scene where Captain Hook received his close shave from Mr. Smee. Other items that I noticed include, the lantern that Hook traps Tinkerbell in, the map to Pan’s hideout, Captain Hook’s box of fancy hooks, and Michael’s teddy bear.

The other side of the map is Skull Rock and Mermaid Lagoon. Tick-Tock Croc can be seen popping up from under the water.

Both of these maps feature absolutely magical art. Fans of the movie will treasure every little detail that the Funko Games designers put into this game map.

As mentioned before, you can mix and match any of the game characters, items, and even the board game maps with Funkoverse. Darkwing Duck or Alice in Wonderland can explore Neverland in a battle against Oogie Boogie and the Queen of Hearts.

Each side of the game board has two different game mode types for you to choose from. This game variety definitely gives the game a high replayability factor.

Jolly Roger Control MatchA pirate’s life is a wonderful life! You to can have a career as a buccaneer by showing the crew that you’re a real swashbuckler. You better be quick though, as your rivals want to join up as well and they don’t want you as their crew mates.

Jolly Roger FlagsAvast! It’s time to cross swords with some real buccaneers, and fight pirates, too! Do your best to tear down your rival’s flag and house your own to claim the Jolly Roger and all of its riches!

Mermaid Lagoon TerritoryJust imagine, real live mermaids! If you can keep your rivals away from Mermaid Lagoon long enough, maybe you can meet them underneath a magic moon.

Mermaid Lagoon LeadersBlast those rivals of yours! If only you could find their hideout, you could trap them in their lair. But where is it? Search all over Mermaid Lagoon and Skull Rock for their hiding place.

Points

The points are brilliant emerald Neverland green glittery gems.

Sword Item Card

You can even use the sword item with other characters in the Funkoverse strategy game family. The sword grants it’s player a reroll ability which is always handy…bad Hook pun.

Darkwing Duck and Captain Hook have switched items. You have to admit that Captain Hook looks great with DW’s Gas Gun. Darkwing and Hook make a great team.

Hook Wing or Dark Hook?

Peter Pan and Captain Hook Character Cards

Character cards list your character’s special moves and abilities. Both Peter Pan and Captain Hook have great powers in the game. They will match up well with your other Funkoverse characters. Pan has great maneuverability and can fly around the board map fast.

Captain Hook has a Status Card for more fire power against his enemies. He can fire his cannon across a row of the map to help takedown and enemy.

Tinkerbell is even included as a Companion Card.

Final Thoughts

All it takes is faith and trust, oh! and something I forgot: Funkoverse

The Peter Pan edition of Funkoverse is a solid edition to the Funkoverse family of games. The Funkoverse game designers did an amazing job designing the game to the Peter Pan theme. This strategy game is designed for 2 players, but the real fun begins when you invite your friends over and bring other Funkoverse characters from your other favorite shows and movies to Neverland. The Peter Pan and Captain Hook characters are also compatible to play in all of the Funkoverse universes. The pirate ship and mermaid lagoon board maps will bring a great theme to your Funkoverse game night, and you can’t get two better classic Disney heroes and villains than Peter Pan and Captain Hook. Which one of those characters is the hero and which one is the villain, I will leave up to you. I love this fun theme for Funkoverse.
