Covers

This is a Dynamite Comics release. So you know that there is going to be a Goliath amount of covers for their Gargoyles comic series. As usual, my favorite cover is the Cover A from David Nakayama which features Angela and Bronx this issue.

Gargoyles #8 (David Nakayama)

The other Dynamite Comics Gargoyles variant covers that I am collecting are the action figure covers. I have all of the Gargoyles action figure variants for the previous issues. Coldstone is featured on the cover of Gargoyles #8. Coldstone is another future Gargoyles Ultimates action figure that I can not wait for NECA to release.

My Review

*STOP READING HERE IF YOU WANT TO AVOID ALL SPOILERS*

We are defenders of the night. We are Gargoyles.

The “Here in Manhattan” story that started out in Gargoyles #1 continues with Chapter Eight: Mayday.

Gargoyles #8 (Amanda Connor)

This issue starts off with some thoughts from Coldfire. She lets the readers know that the current date in the comic story takes place on May 18th, 1997. Coldfire and Coldstone respect Goliath’s leadership, but they do not understand his logic in trusting the humans for his trial. Later on in the issue, we get a two page spread of great artwork featuring Coldfire and Coldstone’s past.

Brooklyn is still upset that Broadway and Lexington went out patrolling in the night without telling him first. The gang wars in New York are still in full force with Dino Dracon pulling the strings.

Goliath awakens from his stone sleep to find Wolf, Jackal, and Hyena from The Pack attacking Rikers prison. The Pack look great in George Kambadais’ art style. All dialogue from the Pack sounds authentic, and I read it in their original voices. Goliath tells the prison guard who had previously been shocking him for fun to release him from his chains so that he can take care of the Pack as they consider everyone collateral damage in their mission. The comic then goes into full action scene mode in an epic battle between Goliath and the Pack. Goliath manages to win the battle and find a cell for Wolf, Jackal, and Hyena. Goliath then returns to his cell and awaits his trial/hearing in the next issue. What could possibly go wrong?

Gargoyles #8 (Lucio Parrillo)

The good news is when you support the comic and buy the individual issues. You help the comic get extended to more issues and nice collected story trades for your bookshelves. Dynamite Comics Gargoyles: Here in Manhattan will release in August and collects the first six issues of the series. It will be published as a trade paperback, trade hardcover, and trade hardcover signed by Greg Weisman collectible editions. I am opting for signed trade hardcover.

Gargoyles #8 (Trish Forstner / Tony Fleecs)

Weisman and Kambadais are crushing all Eyrie Tower high expectations for this Gargoyles comic series.

I can’t wait for the next issue of Gargoyles which is tentatively scheduled to be released August 30th, 2023. Also, please make sure to support Dynamite Comics Gargoyles: Dark Ages, Darkwing Duck, Negaduck, Disney Villains Maleficent, and Disney Villains Hades series while you are out buying Gargoyles.

Gargoyles fans…WE LIVE AGAIN!
