Disney Masters
Fantagraphics launched the Disney Masters Series with Vol. 1: The Delta Dimension in May 2018. Since then they have published a few new volumes in the Disney Masters series each year. Volumes have been alternating between the central character and story being Mickey Mouse related or Donald Duck/Uncle Scrooge.
Fantagraphics presents Disney Masters – acclaimed artists from around the world working in the grand Walt Disney tradition. Many of these stories are new to American readers and appear here for the first time in English. Fresh new artwork, fresh new adventures, and fresh new laughs!

Included Stories
There are 5 stories included in Disney Masters Vol. 22:
- Operation Galleon Grab
- The Snacking Sleuths
- Brother From Another Earth
- Here Today, Gone Apollo
- There’s No Fool Like an Old Fool
Donald and the nephews give their Uncle Scrooge a model ship that holds a secret treasure map to a sunken galleon in Operation Galleon Grab. John D. Rockerduck has a copy of the model ship and a piece of the map as well. The maps were courtesy of the Beagle Boys who plan to steal the treasure from whichever hard working duck retrieves it first. Why didn’t the Beagle Boys just go after the treasure themselves? They are lazy and cheap. May the best Duck or Beagle win…
Scrooge’s candy business is booming when he decides to insert a diamond in every 100,000th box of his Chuggie Chockies candy in The Snacking Sleuths. The diamond prize promotion proves to be profitable until a factory mix up puts one hundred diamonds into one box. It is up to cousins Donald and Fethry to track down the boxes that left the factory to find the big diamond prize box of Chuggie Chockies.
Scrooge gets visited by a Scrooge from another dimension in Brother From Another Earth. They swap places in each other dimensions, but Scrooge-A finds out that Scrooge-B has made a lot of bad decisions in his life that has made him broke and in major debt. Scrooge-B is also resented by his family and married to Brigitta MacBridge. Scrooge-A works hard to earn Scrooge-B his fortune back as well as the love from his family. After a week, the two switch back to new appreciation for their lives.
Super Goof is on the trail of Emil Eagle and Dangerous Dan McBoo who stole Apollo’s Lighted Lampost from the museum in Here Today, Gone Apollo.
Donald stresses out about his birthday which is occurring in a week, and he tries everything that he possibly can to stay and look young in There’s No Fool Like an Old Fool.
My Review
Disney ducks are great, and this is another solid collection of Disney comics goodness from Disney Master, Giorgio Cavazzano. Many of these stories are being published in English for the first time. It is great to get a chance to read some of the Scrooge McDuck and Donald Duck family stories from Topolino magazine. I love a classic Carl Barks or Don Rosa story, but it is great to also get time with some Italian style Disney duck art. Plus we get a story with a case that can only get solved by Super Goof. Fantagraphics is providing major fan service to Disney comics fans with this Disney Master series.
I love the Disney Masters series because we get treated to stories and illustrations from more great Disney comic creators besides the legendary Barks and Rosa. We may have never had a chance to read these stories outside of Fantagraphics’ Disney Masters series.
I am definitely looking forward to reading future volumes of Fantagraphics’ Disney Masters series. A big thank you to Fantagraphics for sending us this book to review so that we can continue our education and journey through the history of Disney Comics.
