The Walt Disney World resort is 50 years young and currently celebrating The World’s Most Delicious Celebration. That anniversary slogan is not technical correct. It is “The World’s Most Magical Celebration”, but the amazing meals that I have experienced on my Walt Disney World vacations are always great memories and big highlights from the trips.
This year’s Disney Parks cookbook, “Delicious Disney: Walt Disney World: Recipes & Stories from The Most Magical Place on Earth”, pays tribute to 50 years of wonderful food memories and recipes. Authors Pam Brandon, Marcy Carriker, and the Disney Chefs do a great job of not just providing the recipes for all of the guest favorite foods, but they also tell the stories behind Walt Disney World’s most magical dining experiences. This is Pam Brandon’s 22nd Cookbook. Co-author Marcy Carriker Smothers is a Disneyland and Walt Disney historian. We reviewed her nostalgic book Walt’s Disneyland last month. She also authored Eat Like Walt. After her collaboration on this book, Marcy should add Walt Disney World historian to her list of titles.
This is a great book release to go along with the other must-have book for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, “A Portrait of Walt Disney World: 50 Years of The Most Magical Place on Earth”.
The book is broken up into different themed sections:
- Chapter One: Gone but Not Forgotten (Favorites from Yesteryear)
- Chapter Two: Never Left the Menu (Because They Are That Good)
- Chapter Three: Eating and Imagination (Theming Food and Restaurants)
- Chapter Four: Rumbly in Your Tumblies (For When You’re Hungry but Don’t Know What You Want to Eat)
- Chapter Five: Tiara and Crowns (Fine and Fancy Free)
- Chapter Six: In (and Out of) This World (From the Globe and the Galaxy)
- Chapter Seven: Be Our Guests (Accommodations and Sustainability)
- Chapter Eight: Drink Me! (Cocktails and Mocktails)
- Chapter Nine: Happily Ever After (Sweet Endings and Desserts)
Disney loves to add + to everything so I am going to call this book, Disney Cookbook+. It is massive at 305 pages, and it includes sections that highlight the history of some of the restaurants that you love and the dishes that you will make. The book even shows some love to the Kitchen Kabaret and Food Rocks. There are delicious pictures of the food next to each recipe. Disclaimer: Do not eat the book. This book is a great way to commemorate “The World’s Most Magical Celebration.” Even if you do not cook, Delicious Disney is full of nostalgia and great memories of some of Walt Disney World’s favorite food offerings.
There are a few food menu items listed in this book that I did not know about that I may not attempt to make myself, but I would definitely try out at a restaurant from the Disney chefs on my next Disney vacation. Some of the drink recipes that I plan on tackling from this book include: Monorail Yellow, Kungaloosh, Pepper’s Ghost, T-16 Skyhopper, and the Orange Bird Flip. I also plan on surprising my family one night with the Frozen Pineapple Treat Inspired by Dole Whip from Aloha Isle.
There were so many additional new food offerings announced for Walt Disney World during it’s 50th Anniversary that I wouldn’t mind a sequel book that included all of those great recipes.
