Disney Magic Kingdoms Welcomes DuckTales!

If there is one thing we have learned about DuckFans, they love their mobile games. We have a pretty solid Disney Emoji Blitz following, and many of you came along with us while we played Disney Heroes (Although… I’m struggling to stay interested in that game). So when we heard that Gameloft’s Disney Magic Kingdoms was adding DuckTales content to their game we got excited!

Disney Magic Kingdoms was first released in March of 2016. It is a mobile game that allows players to create their own Disney Park with attractions, characters, concessions, and of course this park is being attacked by evil that you need to thwart. There’s good news and bad news. Good news, there is a LOT of content available. The bad news, if you are just starting you are WAY behind. Kingdoms is a free-to-play mobile game, but they are really good at getting a few dollars from you. Right away you learn that Pluto has to be purchased with 150 gems. Starting off this seems like an impossible task, so the game offers to sell you the gems you need to buy him for a small amount of cash. The instant satisfaction is met and you can send Pluto to sniff for treats.

Like I said the game is free, but you are going to spend a lot of time farming to earn those characters and buildings. Gameloft has created a beautiful and engaging mobile game and sometimes their sales in gems make dropping a few dollars worth it. I know the people working on mobile games have to be paid so I don’t mind spending a few dollars, but when the game asks for $20 for a single DIGITAL character, I’m out.

I played the game pretty early on and loved it. I put quite a few hours into it. When Disney Infinity ended and my wife became bored with our farming Toy Box, I handed her my iPad and asked her to update my game. She immediately fell in live with the game. I hardly had a chance to play anymore, and slowly I lost interest in checking on her progress in the game.

She eventually found Emoji Blitz and we deleted Kingdoms from our iPad (which has been struggling to keep up with our demand on it). Jump forward to a few days ago, and I’ve been playing the game like crazy. I feel like I’ve caught up and I can tell you a little about the content available. Shout out to Twitter user @KingofToon for filling me in on what was happening on the Livestream when my sound wouldn’t work and for sending me screenshots when my work WiFi wouldn’t allow me to download the update! You rock.

New DuckTales Content!

First off we get a DuckTales’ parade float. Floats help you earn magic and gems (two of the game’s main currencies). I think the float set me back 50 gems and with each parade I earn 750 magic and five gems. So it takes 10 parades to make up what you spent and you are really investing the money in immediate magic and future gems.

The float looks amazing, and I couldn’t keep myself from purchasing it. The float is essentially a giant Scrooge, in his swimsuit, diving in and out of a float filled with money.

The update include four new characters;

Scrooge McDuck, Huey Duck, Dewey Duck, and Louie Duck. The triplets are earned after completing a series of DuckTales quests with Donald Duck. Scrooge on the other hand is a premium character and costs 600 gems. That’s about $19.99 if you already have 100 gems, and $49.99 if you don’t (No thank you!).

You have two other options if that price seems a little high (and it should for any self-respecting Scrooge McDuck Fan). You can game out the 600 gems. This means saving every gem you have for… let’s face it, a while.Thankfully, Kingdoms has multiple ways to earn gems including a set number of videos each day that will give you a gem each.

Your third option is to buy the DuckTales bundle pack for $9.99. This pack not only unlocks Scrooge earlier to help you earn Huey, Dewey, and Louie; but it also grants you the resources to level Scrooge to Level 3.

What You Need For the DuckTales Content!

If you are starting fresh with this update it will either cost you a lot of time or money to get the DuckTales content. To unlock the boys you need Donald Duck and his boat to begin the DuckTales quests. Earning Donald can be incredibly frustrating (see what they did there?), and it takes a lot of time. After you’ve earned Donald you begin his quests that will earn you the boat that will unlock the DuckTales quests.

I would love to tell you that I refuse to buy the DuckTales bundle… but I’m still weighing my options.

I plan on continuing to play Magic Kingdoms for the time being. I’m enjoying myself again, and I might try to take part in the upcoming Tower Event. If you enjoyed this blog or found it helpful be sure to let us know in the comments or on social media. If this blog is popular maybe we will report on Disney Magic Kingdoms for a while.

  1. Not gonna lie, I bought the bundle. I very rarely ever buy premium content for any mobile game, but I just had to for this one.

    • I’m with you. I’m ok with giving them some money… but I don’t like paying $9.99 for a character and extras. $4.99 I would buy… maybe even frequently. They would get more money from me that way.

      • I wasn’t thrilled either. In my mind the bundle was worth $3 or so, maybe $5. And the grind to get Huey is going to be lengthy, to say nothing of Dewey or Louie. Completing the set will be a long-term endeavor.

  2. Well this is certainly dissapointing news. I only GOT this game mid July when I saw I could get Scrooge and Crew. I mean, it’s fun and all, but knowing I am doomed to realistically pay $9.99 (an option I havent seen so far) regardless of how often I play is a bit of a kick in the motivations.

    • You can certainly save the gems you need to purchase Scrooge. I am on my 34th consecutive day of playing and I’ve earned 250 gems. I have learned along the way how to pay attention to opportunities to earn gems, and I think it is possible that I may earn Scrooge before September. I don’t think you will have to pay for Scrooge if you are patient.

As for the deal, you won’t see it until the DuckTales storyline opens which is a continuation of Donald Duck’s. You need Donald and his boat.

Hope you are enjoying the game.
